A Highland Gargoyle's Lucky Star (Tales from the Tarot) by Chloe Archer

The Highland Gargoyles Lucky Star, is Chloe Archers addition to the Tales of the Tarot combined universe. The Star major arcana card changes the path of these two lives to be able to cross paths at last.

From the blurb:

A gargoyle hotter than Goliath (IYKYK) meets a human bad luck magnet with a coveted power that attracts trouble like catnip to cats. Is it destiny or disaster?

Noah Price

When a mysterious magic shop owner draws the lucky tarot Star card for me, I drop everything and hop on a plane to Scotland for the bucket-list trip of my dreams. Outlander (and Highlander, for my fellow nerds), eat your heart out!

Chaos ensues from the moment I arrive and before I know it, the danger turns deadly. Then a smoking hot gargoyle-slash-Highland warrior swoops (literally) in to rescue me—and in a super sexy kilt, no less. Swoon!

My bad luck must be turning good because I've finally met the man--I mean, gargoyle--of my dreams. But Elryk DarkWing doesn't share my optimistic outlook on life and our budding relationship soon has to take a back seat to a threat to our world. I believe in destiny, though--and I'll make sure we get our HEA!

Elryk DarkWing
Guarding a powerful magic ley line in the heart of the Highlands has been the responsibility of the DarkWing clan for centuries. This wasn’t the path I’d wanted for my life, but here I am.

That is, until my fated mate shows up, an attractive wee human with a surprising ability and all kinds of trouble hot on his heels.

Can such a delicate being survive among battle-hardened gargoyles that risk life and limb every time there’s a threat to the ley line we protect? Can he adapt to this isolated life, removed from most of human society? Answer—not bloody likely.

And Noah’s unique power has drawn the unwanted attention of friend and foe alike, and I soon realize keeping Noah safe is a Herculean task. I won’t back down though, because maybe...just maybe...Noah's right, and our destiny's is written in the stars.

A Highland Gargoyle’s Lucky Star is the first book in a spinoff series set in the Monsters Hollow universe and featuring the DarkWing gargoyle clan in Scotland.

Molly Otto's review:

When you pick up a Chloe Archer book, expect chaos with love and action. With her addition to the Tales of the Tarot collection, you have just that and so much more. Noah has been plagued with bad luck his whole life until he happens to come upon the Magic Shop. Where the Star major arcana card is drawn and Noah knows it's time to follow his dreams.

This time, we get to head to Scotland and the DarkWing Castle. You may remember hearing of Elyrk in the Gargoyle and His Romance Writer of his older brother Elryk. Now it's his turn to get his fated mate in the amazingly bubbly Noah. be prepared for all the movie and TV references their are a lot, and they make his personality all the more loveable. The action is nonstop, leaving you to wonder how this will all play out in the end. As with all Chloe reads now, a certain best friend and loyal legend need their stories as well. Hint hint nudge nudge. I will read those immediately!

SNik's review:

Part of a multi-author series (Tales from the Tarot), but can be read as a standalone. Also the start of a new spin-off series (Monster Hollow) for the author. Paranormal. Fated mates. Opposites attract. Found family. Dual POV.

Noah can’t seem to be rid of his bad luck, so when a tarot card reading prompts him he decides to pursue his bucket list item and travel to Scotland. Elryk is a guardian gargoyle for his clan that finds not only is Noah a special magical conduit, but also his fated mate and together maybe they can protect each other and find love in their destined pairing.

Really an adventure full of action, movie, TV and song references, two super likable characters, and a found family for them both. This story had me smiling as Noah is a friendly, fierce and optimistic counterbalance to Elryk’s serious, protective, pessimistic attitude. The humor, the spice, the sweet characters, the world building made this a thoroughly entertaining story that will keep you turning the pages and rooting for Elryk and Noah’s HEA.

Rogue's Review:

- Paranormal
- Fated Mates
- Tarot

This is part of the multi-author Tarot series, and this story is inspired by the Star card. This is Noah and Elryk's story, and is set in the same world as Chloe's Monsters Hollow series. Honestly I think I smiled all the way through this, start to finish. Noah is a delight, another of Chloe's delightful feisty twinky nerdy guys, and is just sunshine right through, despite everything he's been through up to this point with a string of bad luck. Elryk is exactly his right counterpart, not grumpy exactly but very guarded at the start, but I loved that he was so open to finding his fated mate, yet also willing to let Noah have the choice.

If anything, Elryk is too noble, and takes on too much for himself and it was a joy to see him open up as the story went on and be willing to find his own happiness, too. This is pretty much insta-love, but it works for these two as they just fit together like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle. I loved that this is set in Scotland, and is thankfully without the terrible stereotypes and 'accents' a lot of authors fall into. There's a rich vein of stories to be told with the DarkWing clan, and I'm definitely not opposed to revisiting Loch Ness in the future (Please can we have Sorwyn's story?).

I adored this, it's pure happiness and I need more.

Jacqueleen the Reading Queen's review:

This was such an adorable fated mates story. It was also pretty darn funny too. I was dying when Elryk took Noah flying for the first time when not in danger and Noah called their safety harness "the gargoyle BDSM version of a Baby Bjorn!" Having owned a baby wearing contraption I could just picture it in my head and it had me giggling all over again.

Noah was so cute with how determined he was to stick by his mate. Elryk was so worried that Noah would resent him for the fact that if they bonded, Noah would be condemned to living deep in their hidden Highlands castle for the rest of their lives. Elryk's job as the Gargoyle who powers their protective wards makes it so he can't stray too far and too long away from their home. He needn't have worried so much though. Noah was just fine living in a huge castle and he already was making fast friends with some of the other gargoyles who lived there. Elryks bestie in particular got on famously with his new mate, much to his annoyance.

I really enjoyed meeting some of the other supernaturals in this book, especially Nessie. It's my hope that Chloe Archer expands on this universe in the future and luckily based on a few tidbits in this book it looks like that may be the case.
