How to Flirt with a Hellhound (Hellhounds of Paradise Falls Book 1) by Shannon Mae

A new series from Shannon Mae with hellhound's that seek justice and their obsessive and possessive vibes when they finally find their mate.

From the How to Flirt with a Hellhound blurb:

Toby
Maybe I have an overactive imagination, but the hot guy next door totally gives off serial killer vibes. Why else would he know how long it takes to bleed out from a wound? Yeah, ok, so I asked, but it was research. Being an author definitely makes for some odd questions (someone had better clear my browser history when I die, that’s all I’m saying). It’s not like I’m stalking my hot neighbor or anything—there’s nothing wrong with watching him out my window. Although I might have my own stalker (and not the cute harmless kind), which is kind of terrifying. Even if he isn’t a serial killer, maybe my seriously sexy neighbor whose eyes seem to glow red (a trick of the light, I’m sure) can help me out.

Dexter
How do you tell your cute neighbor that cutting off fingers probably won’t cause a victim to bleed out? I don’t know if trying out Toby’s writing ideas is a good method of flirting, but there’s just something about him that calls to my hellhound. He’s adorable, awkward, and all kinds of clueless. He brings out my protective instincts, and I find myself wanting to please him, even if that means figuring out some of the answers to his rather bloodthirsty questions. When I find out Toby might actually be in danger, nothing will stop my hellhound from protecting him. He’s mine, even if he doesn’t know it, and I’ll tear apart anyone who even thinks of hurting him.

Tags: Socially awkward writer and serial killer(ish) hellhound fall in love; talking about dismemberment totally counts as flirting, right?; there’s death and maiming, but only of really bad people; Dex would literally burn the world down for those he cares about; Toby is adorably clueless; hellhounds have tails, and they know how to use them.

Rogue's review:

- new series
- paranormal
- neighbours

Have you seen the meme about the writer and the serial killer? This is that brought to life in a book . This is a spin off series but can be read alone as the start of a new series, there are only a couple of recurring characters from the previous series.

Toby is a crime writer, and is convinced his neighbour is a serial killer. Dexter isn't a serial killer, he's a hellhound responsible for despatching rotten souls to the underworld, and doesn't exactly know how to be human most of the time. He does 'despatch' people in his basement and may know a thing or two about torture too. They're both adorably clueless in their different ways, and this was so much fun to read.

None of the torture or death scenes are in the book, it's all fade to black and for the most part this is funny and kind of light, given the subject matter. Dex and his hellhound brothers are hilarious, mostly clueless about being human and I loved how protective Dex was of Toby. There's a stalker plot too, with someone coming after Toby, and of course Dex ends up getting the bad guy (off the page mostly). I liked Dex and Toby together, their scenes were hot and I also enjoyed how Toby just accepted what Dex really was once he guessed, and there's a nice HEA too. There is real potential for other stories with Dex's brothers and the humans he saved along the way, and I'm here for that too.

Jacqueleen the Reading Queen's review:

"ᴀꜱ ɪ ɢʀᴀʙʙᴇᴅ ʜɪꜱ ʜᴀɴᴅ ᴀɴᴅ ʟᴇᴅ ᴛʜᴇ ᴡᴀʏ ᴏᴜᴛꜱɪᴅᴇ, ɪ ᴄᴀᴍᴇ ᴛᴏ ᴛʜᴇ ᴄᴏɴᴄʟᴜꜱɪᴏɴ ᴛʜᴀᴛ ɪ ᴡᴀꜱ ᴋᴇᴇᴘɪɴɢ ᴛᴏʙʏ.

OK I totally LOVED THIS and I already cannot wait for the rest of the hellhounds and stray humans to fall in love!! There was just so much I enjoyed about this series opener. Dexter, our hellhound, is woefully unprepared in his knowledge of human flirting techniques. The good news is that Toby doesn't seem to mind one bit. In fact, Dexter's rather serial killeresque tidbits of information really hit the mark with him. After all, he's a writer and all of this new information he's learning about dismemberment is really helping him with the plot of his next book.

These two together were so cute when they weren't talking about how long it takes a body to bleed out. Actually, they were even kind of cute then. If you're worried about the squeamish aspect, don't be. Any and all torture is fade to black in this book which is also stated beforehand by the author which I appreciated. I like to know what I'm getting into.

There were a whole host of side characters and each one of them were interesting in their own way. The "stray humans" Dexter saves, Toby's besties, and of course the other hellhounds. Would it be greedy of me if I said I want books for them all? They can even end up with one of each other, I'm not picky!! I just want more of this universe!
