Part of the TALES of the Tarot combined universe. Found in Obscurity is the story of a reluctant witch coming back into the fold and finding his familiar, only to discover that he's found more than he bargained for!
From the Found in Obscurity blurb:
Being a born witch doesn’t mean you actually want to be a witch. At least not in Lorin’s case. He made the decision to run from it over a decade ago, sequestering himself away from his coven and the idea of magic.
Magic isn’t so easy to hide away from, however.
Drawn back to his hometown, Lorin finds himself tangled up with the one thing he was trying to avoid above all else. A familiar. And this familiar proves to be so much more than he could ever expect.
Kit’s humanity had been taken from him. Locked away and kept out of reach. Trapped in his fox form, he’s spent years wandering around from one bonding ceremony to the next, looking for a witch to break the spell. Not just any witch. His mate.
It was never going to be as simple as that, however.
Not only does his mate not seem to want him around, there’s a far more sinister plot to grapple with as Kit tries desperately to woo his mate and make him understand he’s more than he appears.
Found in Obscurity is a standalone MM romance novel as part of the multi-author collaboration Tales from the Tarot. This book is based on the major arcana card The Hermit.
Molly Otto's review:
Just wow. This story has a beautiful nuance that just pulls you in from the first chapter. I have read a lot of fated mates stories and yet can say I have not read one quite like this one. Lorin is a witch who doesn't want it and doesn't want a familiar after the tragic passing of his parents. But when the call to come home is too strong, he returns and participates in a familiar summoning where he gets Kit. Kit has been trapped in his shifter form with his only hope finding his mate.
Let's just say the path isn't easy, but wow, is it magical. The Magic Shop and the Owner help Lorin find his way to his roots and his overall gift. When he comes into this, he is able to help Kit be free and solve the mysteries of his past. This book is that perfect combination of heart, humor, and intrigue that will keep you enthralled the entire journey. It's well worth a read.
Jacqueleen the Reading Queen's review:
"My soul knew it and chased you down the path before I even knew the way."
Kit was an absolute treasure, and it was a joy to watch him fall in love with his grumpy witch Lorin. As a fox shifter, Kit is mischievous and playful. This also crosses over into his personality as a human. To be honest, he was completely adorable no matter what form he was in. I loved when he'd get a smile out of Lorin with his antics. That witch needed more happiness in his lonely life.
Even though Lorin starts off this book not only not wanting a familiar, but anything to do with witchcraft, it doesn't take him long to change his mind after meeting his familiar. The witch/familiar bond was part of it, but I think it was how loyal, sweet, and loving Kit was as a partner that really helped bring Lorin out of his shell. His fox snuggles sure helped too!
Besides the romance, there is also the plotline of finding out who is responsible for locking Kit into his animal form. It takes more than just our MCs to figure out and eradicate the evil that led to his predicament. Though I was sad for all the shifters they had hurt, I was so glad that Kit was able to be at peace knowing him and his mate were safe and they could go on living their happily ever after without looking over their shoulders in worry.
Kit and Lorin's story is one full of heartbreak, loss, love, and self discovery. Their story is also quite adorable!
In the beginning of this story Lorin wants nothing to do with his magic. He doesn't want to use his magic, and he most definitely doesn't want a familiar... Or so he thought. Throughout the course of this book, and with the help of adorable and mischievous Kit, he learns that having magic isn't as awful as he once thought.
Kit's backstory is heartbreaking. Due to despicable people using their magic in a horrendous way, he's not only separated from his family but also forced to stay in his animal form. And while he loves being his fox, he would also like to have his choice back on whether he wants to be his human form or his animal one.
I liked the mysterious component of this story surrounding the coven who casted that horrific spell upon Kit. I also enjoyed seeing Lorin discover who he truly is, and accepting the uniqueness of his magic. Him being able to see things that no one else could was fascinating, I really enjoyed that aspect of the story!
This story is beautiful, and full of adorable cuteness! I love the twist on fated mates, and I also enjoyed how Kit and Lorin weren't just a witch and familiar, but that they were also mates as well. I loved this story and thought it was truly fantastic!
The journey these two men go on is full of warmth, acceptance, strength, a bit of confusion, self discovery, and plenty of love.
