On Warmer Shores is a standalone of building confidence in self, with an age gap, virgin MC and all the sunshine and wine you could want. It's a low heat, low angst story with a lovely HEA.
From the blurb:
I travelled 1,000 miles to find myself - instead, I found you 🥰
Vince
Watching the love of my life, Theo, fall in love was the hardest thing I’d ever endured. Especially as it wasn’t with me!
For years, I’d planned our wedding, but when he announced his engagement to a man I detested, I thought my life was ending.
Silver-edged invitation in the bin, I took advantage of my friend's offer of a villa in the South of France. All expenses paid. I’d be stupid to turn it down.
So, I packed my bags and jetted off to a sun-soaked paradise to lick my wounds.
A disastrous evening out and I’m introduced to Sylvain, the silver fox I never thought I needed. Only now, he’s agreeing to be my date to my ex-best friend’s wedding.
A disaster waiting to happen? Or will he be the Prince Charming to my Cinderella?
And with only one bed to share…what could possibly go wrong?
On Warmer Shores is an MM standalone novel, featuring an age-gap, a fake boyfriend and only one bed. A delightful holiday read with food fights, and of course a HEA!
Rogue's review:
- standalone
- low heat
- age gap
- virgin MC
This is a standalone novel with one MC (Vince) who has been in love with his best friend Theo, for ever. When he falls out with Theo (who is a terrible friend and an even worse person, quite frankly), instead of wallowing about a lost friend, he decides to take a holiday in the south of france, alone. Stepping out of his comfort zone in an attempt to forget the upcoming wedding of Theo and his odious fiancee, he meets the older and more experienced Sylvain and their growing connection is lovely. It's so wonderful to see Vince gain confidence and belief in himself while growing his connection with Sylvain.
The world building is beautiful too, it's almost like I was in France with Vince and Sylvain, I could feel the sunshine and almost taste all that wine too, it was such a beautiful setting. I loved the story too, although I do think perhaps Theo got off too lightly 😂.
I've read everything by Alex J Adams so far, and while this is a departure from her usual, it's welcome and for me, I think this is one of her best. It's a perfect summer read, and I can't recommend it enough.
Molly Otto's review:
First off, can I snuggle Vince forever? This book hit so hard having been through similar feelings that you just felt all of his inner turmoil. First off, Theo needs to be smacked with a clue by four and act like the true friend as Vince & Lexi always have been for him. It takes heartbreak for Vince to do something for himself for a change where he meets Sylvian, an older man who treats Vince as he always should have been. Understandably, these two take things slow, not knowing if they'll see each other again. Vince, in building his confidence, learns to stick up for himself and shows his inner beauty outside even more with the support of a man who always saw him for who he was. Let's also add that I commend Alex for having a book with no penetration. A love story can happen without that step, and they show us this beautifully.
Heather's Review:
I went into this book not even reading the blurb, just one clicked on the ARC op... and I wasn't disappointed in the least! When you go in blind, you think that this book might serve itself up as an oblivious best friends to lovers trope, but I'm so glad that Alex J. Adams took On Warmer Shores in a completely different direction and gave us a Vacation romance with an age gap and a chance for Vince to truly be treated as the beautiful man that he is and appreciated properly!
I like that Sylvain knows what he wants and builds Vince up, letting Vince steer the relationship for the most part, but gently pushing things when Vince needs that assist.
This was a lovely summer read and a fairly low angst, steamy love story!
