Tongue-Tied (Franklin U 2 Book 1) by Christina Lee

Tongue-Tied is Christina's sophomore year edition to the Franklin University universe. This a low angst best friends to lovers romance where you can't help but smile when you read.

From the blurb:

Confessing feelings for your best friend takes being tongue-tied to a whole new level.

AUSTIN
Dex has always been my best friend, so it’s no surprise that we attend Franklin U together. We’re complete opposites. Dex is charismatic and outgoing. Me? Let’s just say I wish I could infuse some of his confidence into my veins. Making friends is hard enough, but trying to meet guys? Even with Dex’s help? I’m useless. Maybe it’s because Dex is all about hooking up, but I want my first time to be straight out of the pages of the romance novels I read.

DEX
After a string of mishaps, I swore off helping Austin land guys. But when he asks me to show him the ropes with practice sessions, I get the feeling he’s desperate. Our dates are pretend, so why am I getting so into them? I want to make Austin happy, but the line between friendship and something more is getting really damned blurry. The fluttery feeling, that electric energy every time we touch…it’s addicting. I’m getting overprotective, not only of my time with Austin, but with douchebags who might break his heart.

Eventually, the pretending has to end so Austin can strike out on his own. But how do I tell him I’m not ready to let him go, when every attempt at confessing leaves me tongue-tied?

Molly Otto's review:

Some authors are just able to achieve that balanced best friends to lovers romance where you can totally see why they will work and Christina more than does that in this one. Dex & Austin are each other's perfect counterpart in they make the other better by showing how amazing the other is. The progression from best friends to lovers feels completely natural where you don't even question, will this work? You just feel it.

Add a bunch of amazing allies who help along the way for a nice and relaxing read. The other friends help nudge them in the direction they're too close to see. A truly beautiful low angst read. I am looking forward to meeting the other couples mentioned in the Franklin universe from the other authors.

Rogue's Review:

- shared universe
- college
- best friends to lovers
- fake dating

This is set in the Franklin U universe, but can be read as a standalone. Dex and Austin are longtime best friends, and roommates until Dex moves into one of the houses on the FU campus. There's no coming out, as both are out already and Dex is a bit of a player who doesn't believe in relationships due to his history with his parents. Austin is completely introverted, loves to read and gets flustered around cute guys he likes. There's a bit of opposites attract going on here too.

The two start fake dating to give Austin a bit more confidence with other guys - and we all know how well fake dating works, it never ends with the two idiots falling for each other 😂. I did like these two, Austins attempts to speak to cute guys gave me some acute second-hand embarrassment though, poor guy. I enjoyed how whole-heartedly they both embraced the fake dating thing, and seeing each other in a new light as they did. They both learned something from it though, not just Austin but Dex too who saw that he could actually have a relationship and he'd be good at it, too. There's a fair bit of heat too, once they give in to their attraction, and no angst but one of the sweetest declarations ever. And I'm glad it was from Austin too, and not Dex.

I loved this, best friends to lovers is usually a fun trope.
