These Monstrous Deeds, A Dangerous Game, and One Last Time by T.J. Hamel

"If you like dark books that contain kidnapping and human slavery, but also want a HEA, then this book series is a must read." Autumn read The Monstrous Deeds series.

From the blurb for These Monstrous Deeds:

How long can someone play the role of a monster before becoming a monster themselves?

That’s the question that’s haunted Travis Kenton - A.K.A. Nathan Roarke - for the last 8 years. He’s hanging onto his humanity by a thread. The knowledge that he’ll save thousands of victims one of these days is why he gave up his entire life and identity nearly a decade ago. It has to be worth it. All of this has to be worth it.

Then the operation’s integrity is compromised, the identity of his boss is revealed, and a slave trader captures his boss’s younger brother for revenge. Now Travis will face the biggest test of his role as Nathan Roarke. He’ll have to buy and convincingly own Carter Beckett until his undercover operation is over, and he can hand Carter safely back to his big brother.

How long can someone play the role of a monster before becoming a monster themselves?

Travis is about to find out.
*** Due to the nature of the plot, this book contains scenes that some might find triggering and/or disturbing, as well as explicit sex scenes between the main characters. I’ve included the warnings I feel are the most important, but not all could be covered without giving away too much of the novel.
*** This is book 1 in a 3 book series. This series DOES end in a HAPPY ENDING if you’re willing to stick around ***

The Blurb for A Dangerous Game:

Everything has changed.

Carter now knows the truth. The man he thought was his master is really his rescuer. His brother's best friend. An American Hero in disguise. His heart is broken. His mind is in chaos. And the man he hates - and also maybe kind of still loves - isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

To maintain the operation and save thousands of lives, Nathan and Carter have to work together. They realize quickly that the best way to do so is by playing roles. Life is a lot easier when they're not two broken-hearted men. When they're just a master and his slave. When they can pretend.

But playing these roles turns out to be a dangerous game.

The goal is to make it to the end of the operation alive. Maybe they will. But if they do, will their hearts still be intact?

The blurb for One Last Time:

Travis and Carter have survived the operation, saving thousands of lives and themselves. But what happens now? Do they go their separate ways? Do they try to rebuild a love they once had, reshaping it to fit the men they have become?

One last time.

It becomes a motto.

An excuse.

A lie they cling to.

They’ll just give into their need for each other one last time, then they’ll let go. Then they’ll move on.

One last time.

It's almost laughable to think they’ll be able to stick with the promise.

It's almost terrifying that there's a chance they might.

*** This is book 3 in a 3 book series. This series needs to be read in order and ends in a HAPPY ENDING if you’re willing to stick around! ***

Blurb for the connected additional story, Drown in You:

Jake is doing the best he can.

He’s going on 10 years working an undercover sex trafficking operation that has forced him to rub elbows with the filth of the world - and smile while doing it. He’s good at his job, though. Especially the part where he keeps his boss’s head on straight. Even when that boss decided to risk everything by falling for one of the slaves they were tasked with saving.

He’s exasperated and running on fumes. And then his boss asks him to save his love’s new friend, Casey, by buying the slave for himself. What could possibly go wrong?

Nothing, if Jake can help it.

He certainly won’t make his boss’s mistake of falling in love with the man he’s tasked with saving. Except… Jake’s a daddy who hasn’t been able to actually be a daddy in far too long, and Casey pushes all of his buttons in the best, most dangerous ways. Add in some forced proximity, Casey trusting him above all others, a stuffed dolphin, bubble baths, and late-night cuddles, and Jake has a feeling he might not be able to help it after all.

Jake has a feeling he’s doomed.

** This book follows two characters first introduced in T.J. Hamel's Monstrous Deeds series. Though this book can absolutely be enjoyed as a standalone, they are best enjoyed after reading These Monstrous Deeds, A Dangerous Game, and One Last Time

Autumn's Review:

This book series consists of 3 books, These Monstrous Deeds, A Dangerous Game and One Last Time. These books need to be read in order.

These three books follow Carter and Travis/Nathen. Once you read this series, you'll understand exactly who Travis is, and why he's the man that he becomes.

I loved every bit of these 3 books. They start off dark, gritty, and full of emotion. There aren't many books that make me cry, but these ones sure did.

There are plenty of soft, sweet moments to outweigh the bad.

There is a 4th book under this author, Drown In You. This book is under a different series tag, but I feel it's best to be connected to this series anyways, because Casey makes a huge impact on everything. I actually read it first before diving into the full series.

Drown In You is just as well written with emotion and hope and hurt, just like the other books.

I can't wait to see more of these side characters.

Rating: 5 Stars
