The Oak Wood Throne (San Amaro Investigations, Book 2) by Kai Butler; Narrated by Greg Tremblay

This series continues to be fantastic, one of my favorite couples and series. Wonderful narration brings life to the action, sarcastic hero, and growing romance story.

From the blurb:

A new case won't solve Parker's old problems....

Parker Ferro needs a vacation. His boyfriend is MIA on a high profile murder investigation, the fae courts have him on call at all hours, and he’s still cleaning up the mess from his last big case. Of course, that’s nothing compared to the demands of the debt he owes the spirit of San Amaro.

So, when a wealthy new client contacts him to locate a stolen fae artifact, Parker’s hoping for a simple job. That the artifact in question looks eerily similar to the one that got him involved with a notorious criminal and almost ruined his life last year - well, that has no bearing on the decision....right? Not to mention the thief’s ability to enter high security areas without a trace and a few very suspicious deaths.

As his life continues to spiral out of control, Parker has to juggle what’s most important to him: his relationship, his need for revenge, or his life. Then again, no one said becoming the new Windrose would be easy.

The Oak Wood Throne is a MM urban fantasy with a HFN ending.

SNik's review:

Second in series (San Amaro Investigations), must be read in order. Paranormal urban fantasy. Established couple. Single POV.

Parker Ferro is knee deep in trouble again, trying to juggle his job as the Windrose, the arbiter of justice for the Fae courts, his PI business, his obligation to the powerful being that is the City of San Amaro, and his more-absent-than-not-lately boyfriend, police detective Nicholas King.

This second book in the series continues Butler’s keen writing of non-stop adventure and action, while weaving even more substance into the relationships between a growing cast of characters and the human world and its neighboring realms. I enjoy Parker being spirited and insecure while being bolstered by his family and friendships, as well as the forever loyal Nick who has his own personal issues so that both men can be supporting and loving with each other. Fantastic read and listen.

Greg Tremblay really embodies Parker Ferro, from his sarcastic comments to his deep feelings for Nick and doing the right thing, all the emotions come to the fore. Both laughing out loud funny and bringing tears to my eyes, his narration brings the wonderful writing to life.
