Knight (Redemption Road Book 1) by DJ Jamison

When an unforgettable hookup ends up being your best friend's younger brother and then your roommate, what's a guy to do? Agreeing to casual with Knight is the only thing Aiden can offer, he plans to leave town in a year, but what if all he wants is to stay?

From the blurb:

They call me Knight because I'm always trying to save someone...

Unfortunately, I can't even save myself most of the time. I didn't save myself from getting involved with the wrong people, from taking the fall for a guy I thought I loved, or from being betrayed by him.

Redemption Road gives me a fresh start. a new family of men who know what it's like to make mistakes, and a chance to meet a guy who actually deserves my heart. Only problem? He's a doctor going places far from Riverton--and he's way too smart to fall for a con like me.

Especially when my past shows up and tries to drag me back into the biker gang I thought I'd escaped.

There's no running from them. I'll have to fight if I want my freedom. And there's a good chance I won't come out of it alive.

This time, I'll have to save myself. But as the other ex-cons at Redemption Road step up, I realize I'm not alone. I finally have people who care about me.

And my best friend's brother, Aiden, tops that list. He's not only my roommate and casual hookup. He's becoming the center of my world.

But unless I end this, I can't stay with him. I'd only put him in danger. So there's really no choice.

I'm going to get my happy ending--or die trying.

SNik's review:

First in series (Redemption Road), spinoff. Small town. Brother’s best friend. Hookup to roommates to lovers. Found family. Dual POV.

Knight has left the Serpent motorcycle club behind after his stint in prison, and now has a set of men he considers family. When his friend’s little brother Aiden, a new doctor and Knight’s one time hookup comes to town, Knight agrees to something casual as they both have their different lives hanging over their heads.

This story of attraction between new roommates with a large found family was a fun introduction to this new series. Aiden and Knight are both likable, well-meaning men, who are working hard to be their best while trying not to fall hard for each other. They have plenty of steamy times, but also really care and have fun together which was strengthened by the outside support they have from friends and family. Knight was a former bad boy cinnamon roll that was sweet to read, and once both he and Aiden recognized their strong feelings there was no hesitation.

Molly Otto's review:

Redemption Road was made to give ex cons a real shot to stay out of prison and move forward with their lives. These men all made mistakes and they all know it, but this is their shot at making wiser choices staying clean and having a better life. Knight is one of the members who will do anything for his found family and when his best friend Flynn asks to have his brother Aiden room for him for the year he wants to help even if Aiden is his Angel that he never thought he'd see again. Aiden having to grow up quick after Flynn protected him and changed the course of both their lives forever. When these two become roommates they learn life is about another chance and will do anything and everything for their found family even if that means changing course once again to do what is right. Loved how this story was set up with both men learning how to move past their past, yet still both accepting what has happened doesnt make you into the man you are now, just apart of what you had to go through to end here. I cannot wait to see whose story comes next in this world from DJ.

Angel's review:

Knight and Aidan's story was one I wasn't quite expecting! When I read the blurb I suspected that it was going to be a good story about love defying odds, but I wasn't prepared for the story I got. ((In a good way!))

Will, aka Knight, has a troubled past, he got into the wrong crowd when he was younger and trusted someone he shouldn't have and that ended up being his demise. Once he got out of prison, he was determined to do things right and stay out of trouble. And he did just that! I honestly think Knight is my favorite character in this book, he's just so sweet, a bit jagged around the edges but he still has a soft, and gooey center. Especially when it comes to his Angel or his family at Redemption Road. I really enjoyed reading about his journey battling his past when it comes knocking and what he did to make his life better, also, I LOVED how sweet he was with Angel. He respected Angel's boundaries but also wasn't afraid to push Angel outta his comfort zone when he needed it, the bond and relationship they built was really amazing.

While Knight is my favorite character, I also really enjoyed Angel's character, (aka Aidan), as well. He was a bit difficult to get a read on at first, a bit dismissive of Knight and kinda gruff at times? But as the story progressed I got to learn more about him and why he was behaving the way he was and then it all made sense after that.

These two are opposites, and they have a lot of roadblocks that they have to work through, but the work they put into making their relationship work is so worth it and was so enjoyable to read about.

If you're thinking about giving this book a read, I highly recommend you do so!

Heather's Review:

I love that DJ Jamison's story worlds blend into one another... so, while this is the first book in the Redemption Road series, it follows closely behind the Foster Bro Code series with Knight making an appearance in the last book in that series and Aiden being related to one of the MCs from the same book...  It can be read standalone, but I do recommend starting with the Foster Bro code books first.

That being said, I adore Knight and Aiden together - from their rough start to roommates to lovers and more - this story really did feature both redemption and reinvention, as well as found family and the best of small town romance.
