Darkness Tempt Me by Emmy LaRoux; Narrated by Oliver Williams

Spicy Boss/Assistant dark romance

From the blurb:

Three years ago, I escaped an abusive relationship, left town, and took my brother with me. I never looked back. After landing my dream job as an assistant to a high-powered CEO, life couldn’t get any better.

I know I shouldn’t flirt with my sexy-as-sin boss, but while everyone sees someone cold and calculating, I see Mavik Blackwood, the man with an intense stare that ignites my soul.

He’s intoxicating. An addiction I can't seem to get enough of. And every time he denies the fiery passion simmering between us, it fuels my obsession. He makes me feel safe, appreciated, and worthy. He makes me feel seen, and I want to return the favor. Working for Mavik means I know everything about him. I see him…

But do I really? One night, I see everything I didn’t realize I was missing. I witness something so horrifying that I should run the other way. I can’t let history repeat itself.

Instead, I’m questioning good versus evil. My sanity and morals are being tested as I’m drawn into a world of forbidden desires. Mavik says we would never work because, while I’m the light, his soul is pure black.

But it’s too late. I’m drawn to this dangerous, beautiful man and the darkness within.

Lesetiger's review:

I hadn't read anything by this author before, so I was curious about this book.

The writing style was wonderful, and the characters and the dark atmosphere were also brilliantly portrayed.

On the one hand, there's Mavik, a dangerous man with dark secrets that blur the line between good and evil. And then there’s Peyton, who starts a new job as Mavik’s assistant after emerging from a difficult relationship in the past that still triggers him at times. He feels drawn to his boss; he knows how his boss likes his coffee, which side of the bed he sleeps on, and so on.

Conversely, Mavik is quite possessive and protective when it comes to Peyton. Both are drawn to each other but can’t find the right moment to bring it up—until Mavik’s uncle dies and attaches a condition to the inheritance. You can feel their mutual attraction right away as you read.

I found the story very entertaining; there were several plot twists, some unexpected, some predictable to me. And there are some steamy scenes!

The audiobook experience is quite dark, and with the haunting atmosphere created by narrator Oliver Williams, it was so captivating that I couldn’t pause it. The narrator was absolutely fantastic and did a brilliant job of conveying the mood of the book and the characters. I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for this narrator!

I liked this dark yet pretty sweet story with a bit of a daddy kink.
