Dominic has returned and is determined to get Ryan back. But Ryan it's been ten years, and maybe there was too much damage to his trust and love to every allow Dominic back into his heart.
From the blurb:
I can’t leave Ryan Davies behind any more than I can my own shadow.
It’s been ten years since Ryan turned his back on me and walked away. A decade of living my life without him. Dreaming of him. Longing for him. Craving him.
But I made a promise to him that night. A vow that one day, I’d be back to claim him. Because he is my shadow. Mine - and I won’t ever let him forget it.
It’s all boiled down to this moment. There’s nothing standing in the way of our future happiness.
Aside from Ryan’s fiancée.
I’ll sacrifice anything to have him in my life again. I’m going to remind him that love burns brightest in the dark. No-one can make Ryan happier than I can.
All I have to do is prove it to him before he stands at the end of the aisle.
Waiting for someone else.
I’ll wait in the shadows until he’s ready to accept what I already know.
That we belong together.
Shadows Never Leave is the final book in the Shadow Duet. It must be read after Shadows Never Lie. This contemporary, high-angst MM romance ends in a very satisfying HEA.
SNik's review:
Second in duet (Shadow Duet), must be read in order. Second chance. Brother’s best friend. Slow burn. Dual POV.
Ryan is getting married in a few weeks when Dominic appears back in his life determined to win Ryan back. Ten years apart, but the feelings are still there, and Dominic is determined to prove he can be trusted. A lot of time has passed and there is a lot of hurt to overcome, both men have regrets and the writing really made the emotions vivid.
I appreciated that Dominic never faltered in his plan to be in Ryan’s life, but given the time constraint it felt too quick for forgiveness and too pushy at times. I wish there was more insight into the secondary characters and their relationships with the main characters, because some of those relationships were obviously important in shaping Dominic and Ryan’s lives. There was never a moment where I believed Dominic and Ryan couldn’t make this work, their original story was so heart wrenching, and luckily those feelings remained just as strong. Overall, a really good read, and enjoyable duet, and two main characters that really go through it to get their HEA.
Angel's review:
Shadows Never Leave is part two in Lark's duology and this one is a doozy! In a good way!
I will start by saying you can't read this one as a standalone, you have to read book one, (part one), in order to read this book.
Now, having said that, if you're like me then after reading the first book you probably weren't too big of a fan of Max or Dom, I know I wasn't. But! In this book we got to see a different side of the story, their side. In addition to that we also got to see Dom and Max 'grown up', they recognized their behavior in the past wasn't okay and did their best to not only make amends but to learn from it and to do better. I quite enjoyed that part, especially because those actions/moments showed real character growth for the both of them and I enjoyed being able to see that they actually changed.
Dom and Ryan's relationship isn't 'conventional', its complicated, messy, brutal, and at times beautiful. Even though these two have had such a rough past they still found a way to be together and I loved that for them. Their relationship isn't one I would necessarily call 'healthy' at certain points, but you know what? That's what worked for them and I'm more than happy with how their story turned out.
I do have to say that Xander should win an award for best side character, I loved him SO much! His ferociousness and protectiveness over Ryan was just so endearing and heartwarming! I loved that they both had such a profound and close bond with each other, it was super sweet. Oh! And the way he went at Dom and Max? He deserves an award just for that alone, while I don't condone violence, they both had it coming.
