Wylder is everything a head of family should be: responsible, serious, with a planned type of life he plans to lead. However, insert one bratty hacker and Wylder's life is constantly a headache that he isn't sure he wants to get rid of.
From the blurb:
As the eldest brother and leader of The Firm, I take my responsibilities very seriously. There’s nothing I won’t do to keep my family safe. Staying vigilant, always thinking ten steps ahead, and holding the pieces of my life together with steady hands. Control is everything, because if I loosen my grip for even a moment, the darkness I’ve buried inside will claw its way free.
Everything is stable. Predictable. Safe.
Until Neo.
He’s a distraction I can’t afford but a temptation I can’t seem to ignore. My darkness is drawn to him; it wants to be set free.
And as our enemies close in, Neo becomes the one variable I can’t control… and the one risk I find myself wanting to take. Because for the first time, surrendering to the dark doesn’t feel like weakness.
It feels a lot like love.
SNik's review:
Third in series (The Firm), best if read in order. Opposites attract. Found family. Mostly single POV.
Wylder is the eldest billionaire Buckingham and head of the secret organization called the Firm. He always does what’s expected, except when it comes to the chaotic hacker his family is protecting and who is living with them, especially since Neo pushes buttons Wylder didn’t know he had.
The push and pull between Neo and Wylder was really fun to read, the serious but tempted Wylder trying to resist the bratty, clever Neo and all of his pranks and come ons. Neither man thinks anything between them can work, but everything certainly does, their understanding of each other, acceptance, and mutual lust. I enjoyed whenever Neo and Wylder were on page together talking, and especially the strong family bonds that include anyone important to the brothers. Overall, another good entry to this series and I look forward to more.
Angel's review:
I've been so excited about reading Wylder and Neo's story! I knew from their interactions in the previous book that they were going to be a delight to read about and I was right. They have so much chemistry between them even when their relationship is more full of annoyance and frustration at first.
The more Neo kept playing pranks on Wylder, and the more he inserted himself into Wylder's carefully constructed life, the more we got to see a real relationship start to bloom between these two. Although, both of these men seemed determined to self sabotage along the way, but hey, they got there in the end. I personally liked how their relationship was full of banter and pranks, plus there was more to it then that. There was thoughtful considerations regarding each other's interests as well, like Neo ordering Wylder his favorite drink and making sure he ate, and how Wylder chose places to take Neo to on their date that he knew Neo would be interested in.
They might've exchanged barbs and had a certain level of animosity between them at the beginning, but that didn't last for very long. I really enjoyed the slow burn, I thought their whole relationship dynamic was written so well! Neo helped Wylder learn that it's okay for him to give up control and to trust others to help him, and Wylder showed Neo that he's not going to leave him. They both offered each other something that neither has ever had before, which I thought was really sweet.
This family though... While they may be murders.. or rather vigilante's? Their family dynamic is slightly dysfunctional but so full of life and comedic banter along with love and support... And the occasional blood shed. My favorite moment was when Jules smacked Samson with a candy cane and it ended up coming back to smack him... The way it was written was just so funny and it really helped break up the heaviness that occured do to the plot itself. (Which was fantastic by the way!)
I enjoyed reading about every part of this story and I am SO excited to see this series continue. I think Samson's book is going to be a wild ride for sure.
