Perfect Storm (Toronto Thunder Book 1) by Beth Bolden

Are sex pacts a thing? Aidan isn't sure, but when Levi offers to help introduce him to all things between guys, he agrees. But now they are teammates and roommates, this is getting complicated.

From the blurb:

When the sexy little brother of Aidan’s best friend suggests a hookup pact, it's the perfect storm for a bi-awakening . . .

Toronto Thunder quarterback Aidan Flynn always believed he was straight, until his close friend and favorite wide receiver signs with a team across the country. Distance opens his eyes and unlocks a desire he can’t deny. Even if his feelings aren’t returned, Aidan still wants to learn more about this part of himself.

Frustrated and a little heartbroken, the last thing he expects is for his crappy mood to get called out by his best friend’s little brother. Or for Levi to offer, on one drunken night, a pact: if Aidan never gets together with his guy, Levi will show him everything he’s been missing—and wanting—in bed.

It’s a stupid promise, fueled by booze and heartbreak, and Aidan expects that Levi will never call him on it.

Except Levi does. He shows up at Aidan’s house in Toronto less than two months later, not only willing to fulfill his side of the pact, but now signed to the Thunder as Aidan’s new right tackle. Aidan assumes it’ll be easy to get rid of him, but Levi is charming and persistent, and he not only ends up living in Aidan’s house, but sleeping in Aidan’s bed.

It’s easy and fun and the best hookup Aidan’s ever had in his whole life. It’s so good, in fact, Aidan starts to experience feelings he believed were long gone, traded away with his friend. Maybe with Levi in his life, love isn’t such a lost cause, after all.

They’re great on the field and between the sheets. But when Aidan’s past returns, he must decide whether Levi also has a place in his heart.

SNik's review:

First in series (Toronto Thunder). Best friend’s brother. Roommates. Teammates. Opposites attract. Slow burn. Dual POV.

Pro quarterback Aidan is rejected by the first man he had feelings for, and now he has the younger brother of his best friend offering to help him out with a little experimentation after he gets over it. But, Levi doesn’t expect to end up on the same team as Aidan and now they are roommates, so maybe they can start their sex pact now instead of waiting, no strings.

Levi is the sunshiney outgoing opposite to Aidan’s serious and slightly grumpy personality, and yet they really click as friends and eventual lovers. Of course emotions get involved, but neither man is willing to be honest about how deep those feelings are running until they get a little push. I appreciated Levi’s patience, maturity and sweetness when he’s romancing and seducing Aidan. There are tons of cameos from Bolden’s previous series, a new team with interesting possible main characters to come, and two football players that find a mutual attraction can turn into an unexpected love.

GreenwingReads review:

I love Beth's writing and character development. I think that is where this author really shines, she writes guys that you feel like you could know and often they are going through relatable things, even when they are sport stars.

This is the first book of a new series, but it is connected to other series. Aidan and Levi appear in the Condors series as the brothers of another couple, Landry and Riley. I haven't read that whole series and while this book is a standalone, I did feel like I was missing some things or didn't fully appreciate some things because I wasn't as familiar.

Aidan is the uptight rule follower to Levi's more relaxed chill personality. They do balance each other well and I liked how Levi would push Aidan's boundaries, but not too much. They fit each other well.

Lack of communication and keeping their feelings to themselves is a big part of this story and it got frustrating at times. These two were only really good at hiding their feelings from each other and Aidan in particular made me mad a couple of times because of how he treated Levi due to his unwillingness to communicate. I had expected for Levi to be more assertive in that regard, but he wasn't.

I expected this story to have a lot of spice given the pact that their relationship started on, but it didn't have a ton and the scenes were pretty short. That's not a bad thing, but I think worth mentioning since some readers might go in with certain expectations.

Overall, it was a great story and I'm intrigued by the other characters mentioned who are likely to get their own stories in this series. It is getting a bit complicated keeping track of everyone across all the different series, but if you don't dwell on it too much, the stories can still be standalones.

Heather's Review:

This was a fun read and a great start to a new series featuring my home city of Toronto!  I love a good best friends' brother romance - add in a sexual awakening, a sex pact and circumstances that bring the men together as roommates long before they expect to see each other again and the sparks fly hard!

With a grumpy/sunshine undertone and a new dynamic as teammates and roomies to work through, I enjoyed watching the tension build between these two men and I love that Levi lets Aiden set the pace for what he needs.

As with any new series, you also get a glimpse into the teammates who will feature in future stories and I can't wait to see who gets their HEAs next!
