Milo makes a grave mistake on his last job for the Italian mob and decides its best to head west as far as he can get from what was his family. When his stolen vehicle breaks down in Montana, Stone picks him up and offers him a job at his ranch. The two begin a relationship to heal each other from past hurt. When Milos past catches up Stone must choose to fight for Milo or allow his past to get in his way. These two are both broken in their own ways and do make mistakes, but that's only human and you can see why the choices were made even if you don't necessarily agree with them. This story is a light dark romance in my opinion, where yes there are darker themes involved but it does not go to deeply in that aspect of the story, but you get an understanding of the world Milo left behind. Previous reading is not necessary to understand what is going on with the characters. I do hope that in time Lucky gets his story, and we see what way fate decides to lead him.
