Killlian is given his redemption arc in ABSOLUTELY PUCKED. This is a forbidden best friends twin brother hurt comfort romance in accepting your mistakes and moving forward from them.
From the blurb:
Sometimes the one-night stand you meet at a bar on the outskirts of town shows up at your house a month later to reveal he’s the one man you were never supposed to touch.
My friends are all I have, so I’d rather lose my other leg than do anything to hurt them. But how was I supposed to know the bearded stranger at the bar that night was the one person who hurt my best friend beyond repair?
I never would have known who Killian was if he hadn’t turned up at my door a month after our little tryst. But here he is, on my doorstep, with nowhere to go and a sob story that wounds my already bleeding heart.
I should turn him away, but I can’t. Killian makes me feel things I’ve never felt before.
And he’s the first man to ever look at me like I’m a whole person and not just shattered pieces from a bad accident and a broken family.
How can I give that up?
My only job should be to protect my best friend, but the heart wants what the heart wants. All I can hope is that in the end, when truths are finally revealed, I won’t have lost the only people who love me for exactly who I am.
Absolutely Pucked is a forbidden relationship, found family, MM hockey romance in the Punk as Puck series, which is best enjoyed in order. It features a para-hockey player with a love of classic horror films, a chip on his shoulder, and a determination to be better than his family ever thought he would be, an estranged man with a past full of lies, sins to confess, who never believed he was worthy of a good man, a scraggly alley cat with high end taste, secret dates, making out in store rooms, playing amateur private eyes, the merits of forgiving not only others but yourself, and a steamy-sweet happily ever after.
Molly Otto's review:
Let us not sugarcoat this did Killian mess up big time, yes, yes, he did. As with most things in life though that doesn't negate him from deserving another chance. Killian has to hit rock bottom in life supposed perfect life to be able to move on and soar. Ford is one of those people who deserve the world and yet so many people have done the opposite and taken him down peg by beg. When a one-night stand that neither man expects to see the other again, changes their lives you see the growth needed for something more.
EM has always had an art in their writing to show strong characters who have dealt with more than their fair share at this thing we call life. This time they show more than ever there are always more sides to a story and the truth can be both more painful and yet freeing all in the same. The growth in Tucker alone from his story now that he is happy with Deo alone is a thing of a beauty. He shows that with time you can move on and let the people who deserve a chance in. Ford continues to show that his strength of friendships and bonds with these men is the glue that holds them all together. Killian is able to be actually happy and finally let his past go and stand up for himself even when everyone assumes the worst of him cause let's be honest, he allowed it. Going into this story I wasn't sure if I could even like Killian, now being on the other side I can say I love him and happy he has found his perfect other half.
Angel's review:
When EM announced that Killian was getting his own story, I was skeptical... In Tucker's book we got his firsthand account of exactly what and who tore those twins apart, and seeing as how much damage was done, I honestly didn't think he could be redeemed. But, I am happy to say I was wrong, and EM was right.
Killian and Ford's journey is not an easy one, they both are facing big life changes, inner turmoil, loss, trauma, and just trying to find a way to live and be happy. Their story is full of angst and if you're not a fan of angst and trauma being discussed, then this couple may not be the one for you. However, if you do like those things listed above, then please give Killian and Ford a chance. As someone who didn't think anything could make me like Killian, this book, and these characters, changed my mind.
I liked how their relationship was drawn out in such a nice way, their relationship didn't feel rushed or forced, and it wasn't too drawn out either. Yes, there was angst but it was incorporated into the plot so seamlessly that it enhanced the storyline and the characters. I also really enjoyed how certain characters made frequent appearances throughout this book, I love seeing past characters and this book had that in spades.
I think this story did a really good job of showing that there's two sides to every story, and that people can multiple chances if given a proper reason to have earned them. People make mistakes, it's part of being human, and this book really encapsulated that as well as the importance of forgiveness.
I also HAVE to talk about the absolutely adorable pillow fort scene with Ford, Killian, and Ford's adorable kitten. The little princess she is. That scene just warmed my heart and had so much emotion to it that just made it a great scene to read.
Oh! And when the twin's finally sit down for that heavy conversation was what I had been waiting for throughout this whole book! I needed to know what would happen if they ever actually had that conversation where they lay all their cards on the table, and I have to say I am so happy EM included that really pivotal moment. That moment showed that while things weren't going to be alright right away, they would be eventually, and I found that really beautiful.
I'm sad to see this series come to an end but I am so excited for the spin-off series! I hope Jonah gets his own book, I adore him.
