CASUAL FELONIES kicks off Kelly Fox next generation series of the children of their Guardian series. Rami doesn't know about his family's morally gray vigilante involvement, but his barber Truett knows and is trying to stay away from the building connection he feels with Rami so he doesn't end up in the sights of Rami's dangerous fathers.
From the blurb:
At what point does casually stalking your hot barber become a felony?
Look, I swear I’m harmless. Just a mildly obsessed, extremely hot influencer trying to figure out why my barber-slash-hookup-slash-possible-soulmate kicked me out after the best [redacted] of my life.
As he was shoving me out the door, he muttered something about my dads and a meat hook. I have no idea what he’s talking about. Sure, my dads are... intense. But it’s not like they’d actually kill a man for defiling their son.
Probably.
Anyway, I’m off to slap a super illegal tracker on the hot barber’s car and see what that gets me.
CASUAL FELONIES is book one of The Wildlings, a queer romantic vigilante saga set in the semi-near future, featuring the grown-up kids of the morally gray Guardians. Expect: cousin shenanigans, ethically questionable tech, surprise cameos, vigilante family drama, and the completely unsanctioned defiling of a barber chair.
SNik's review:
First in series (The Wildlings). Spin-off from the author’s Guardians series so it might be more fun if the reader is familiar with those works. Slow burn. Dual POV (with some secondary POV). Heed content warnings.
Rami kind of has a crush on his barber, the young genius philanthropist doesn’t realize that Truett is also a vigilante hacker that knows things about Rami’s assorted family member’s morally gray endeavors that Rami doesn’t even know about.
This story has a good introduction to the Wildlings characters, their fierce loyalty and love for each other as well as the protectiveness of their extended family. Rami and Truett are mutually attracted to each other but are slow to actually start something, but once they do they are off to the races in steam and forever feelings. I liked both Rami and Truett as characters, and was surprised by how their character growth turned out which was interesting. I do wish there was more focus on their relationship development, but the story was fun and a good introduction to where the series is going.
Molly Otto's review:
No lies I went into this without having read Fox's Guardians series to see if I was able to follow without previous reading and am happy to report was able to and it was fun meeting all these unique men.
Rami comes with a pedigree of family on the gray side of the law and yet doesn't quite fit. When his crush on his barber, Truett becomes an intro to stalking Rami soon sees how much his family has been keeping from him. The Wildlings are a unique collection of men who like to cause chaos in their wake. Truett knowing of Rami's family's unique pedigree is wary to get involved with Rami. When things go as planned, they learn to rely and protect each other in this world. It is a fun introduction to this world, and I am looking forward to more in the future.
Heather's Review:
"Not all bisexuals are vengeful," Anders responds sagely. "But all vengeful people are bisexual." - It's not the most relevant quote from Casual Felonies, but it's the one that has stuck with me so I am sharing...
This book gives us spicy romance between two men who fit together perfectly and the re-introduction of the Guardians after several years as well as setting the stage for the entire Wildlings series to come...
I never read the original Guardians series, but I've met them in subsequent series and I've definitely got a deeper understanding of what they stand for and what they do by reading this book as they start to pass the torch to the next gen.
