Unexpected fated mates have to keep it a secret or endanger their lives. I've been eagerly waiting for book two ever since I finished reading book one!
From the blurb:
For almost a century, we’ve believed the prophecy to be a hoax. The promise of Fated Mates being the cure to this ruined world was a beautiful story, a romantic lie told to keep us in line. Nothing more than an idyllic promise to make us work together.
Only we never did, and the world only suffered more.
Joining the military has turned my life into a monotonous cycle of schedule, routine, and order. Day after day, I wake at the same time, and wear the same uniform, and stare at the same power-hungry faces I’ve been commanded by for decades. Days blur into weeks, and weeks turn into years where it feels like nothing ever happens. Nothing ever changes.
Until the day it does….
The prophecy is real, my best friend has disappeared with his mate, and now I’m here, alone, keeping my last promise to him. Protect August.
It’s not hard to track him down, but the human is the last thing I expected. August, a medic, is confined to a cell with the rest of his rebel friends, but despite this waste of a world and the terrible things he’s seen in this life, he’s good. Sunshine and smiles, endless curiosity and infallible happiness. He views the world with a positivity I can’t figure out, and it pulls me into his gravity, eliciting conflicted feelings that have no place in a warrior like me.
In a life that’s riddled with darkness, August is light, and I can’t seem to look away from his glow.
Author's note: Elas is a First Person Dual POV MM Monster Romance series with explicit content intended for readers 18+. It is the second in a series that will have an overarching storyline carrying between books. While this series ends with a guaranteed HEA, individual books end on more of a HFN basis. The feature couple's story will be resolved, though there will be some unanswered questions and mild cliffhangers that lead into the next in the series.
Angel's review:
Wow. I don't know what to say when it comes to this impeccable book.. I guess I'll start by saying that I've been very eager for the next book in this series ever since I read Ronan. That book, and those characters completely captivated me and this one did the same. We got to see glimpses of Elas and August in Ronan's story but we didn't get too much information about them. Most of the questions that were left unanswered in that book did get answered in this one, however, those answers brought upon more questions that we have yet to get answers to once more.
I'm really glad that this author took time to build a connection between August and Elas outside of them being fated mates. Both men, while kind and at times cheery, are both weary of letting others close. So for them to slowly get to know each other gradually really worked for them and added an extra layer of depth and emotional intimacy.
The banter between these two was hilarious to read about and I caught myself smiling at times at their silly dialogue. All the characters were written so well and were so full of life even the evil characters who I won't mention.
The world building was as detailed in this one as it was in the previous book, everything was described in such a vivid way I could almost picture where these characters were. I have to point out how much I enjoyed the fact that this book not only picked up from where the last one left off, it also gave more backstory into what was going on back at the barracks while Ronan was on the run with Cameron. The flowing plotline runs so smoothly between these two books and I'm so excited to see it continue, although seeing how this book ended I know its going to break me, but hopefully in the best of ways.
I'm really looking forward to Nyx's story and finding out what other secrets have yet to come to light. I highly recommend this book and Ronan, but keep in mind this is NOT a standalone. If you want to read this book you have to read Ronan first, and trust me, it'll be worth the time.
(P.S. I love the sketches at the end of these books depicting what the characters look like and what their identifying characteristics are, its so unique and helps create a better visual of the characters we're reading about.)
SNik's review:
Second in series (Mates Mark), best if read in order. Paranormal/post-apocalyptic. Fated mates. Hurt/comfort. Found family. Dual POV. Mild cliffhanger. Heed content warnings.
As a favor to his friend, Elas agrees to help the human medic and prisoner named August, not realizing that the human is his fated mate. Agreeing to work in the monster clinic, August only wants to help, and the building relationship gets put to the test as August’s conscientiousness puts them in harm's way.
Get ready for an anxious and emotional ride as August and Elas start down the path to a relationship which really ramps up in steam once they have the mate marks. The overarching plotline takes center stage as we find out more about fated mates and how information has been hidden, as well as horrible circumstances are in store for anyone found to have a mate. Danger surrounds August and Elas, but in their bubble they are so sweet and happy and loving, this couple (and all of the mates in this series) deserve to find peace and happiness, but we have to wait as the series continues to see if that happens.
