Depths of Desire (The Saints of Westmont U Book 4) by Hayden Hall

Two guys growing up in the same small Nebraska town but never really crossing paths. They go to the same college and something happens that makes it impossible for them to leave it as a one time thing.

From the blurb:

He was my secret crush. My one-night escape. And the mistake I can’t stop wanting.

Lennox

Some guys flirt for fun. I fall too fast.

Oliver Hayworth was my childhood crush, the golden boy who never looked back.

So when I offered him a ride home for the holidays, I didn’t expect a blizzard. Or the cabin. Or the night that would ruin me for anyone else.

Now we’re back at Westmont U, and he’s acting like it never happened. Like I don’t exist. Like he didn’t whisper my name all night long.

But I see through him. I see the pressure, the fear, and the fire he tries to bury under medals and ambition.

And I want him anyway, even if it breaks me.

Oliver

He wants something real. I don’t have that to give.

Lennox Ellery is every dangerous thing I’ve tried to avoid. He’s warm, open, and impossible to ignore.

I told myself it was a mistake. Just one night. A slip in focus.

But I can’t stop thinking about him. About the way he looked at me like I was more than a swimmer chasing gold.

I’ve spent my whole life sacrificing everything for one dream.

I never planned for him.

And now that he’s in my head, in my bed, and in my heart, I don’t know how to let him go.

Depths of Desire is a hockey romance and the fourth book in The Saints of Westmont U series. It follows an ambitious swimmer and a flirtatious hockey jock in a snowed-in cabin, a one-night-stand neither can forget, and a whole lot of pining. While each book can be read on its own, reading in order will be more fun.

Reed Kaye's review:

Both Lennox and Oliver come from the same small town in Nebraska. Both have noticed each other but since were involved in different sports didn’t really know each other. Both ended up going to the same college.

Then an incident happens that puts them together and they both acknowledge neither is looking for a relationship. What starts as a casual thing changes when neither seem able to stay away from the other.

This story got so intense about if and how the relationship progresses and what each’s career plays into them being together. Does either give up what they have lived their whole life for? This really gets edgy as the story progresses.

I think I like this story the best in the series so far. Now I have to wait for the next.

SNik's review:

Fourth in series (The Saints of Westmont U), but can be read as a standalone. Forced proximity. Only one bed. Dual POV.

Lennox is driving his one time crush back to their shared hometown but an unplanned stop in a small cabin leaves both men with the memory of an unforgettable night. Oliver’s whole life is swimming, he trains and competes, always striving to be the best, and he can’t be sidetracked by feelings or the hot hockey player that haunts his dreams.

This story revolves around thoughts of wanting what you think you can't have and having to choose only one thing. It is a beautifully written story although I’m not sure the crux of Lennox and Oliver’s inability to be together is as insurmountable as they make it seem so it faltered slightly for me in that plot point. However, whenever either man thinks about the other the yearning, emotions and quiet joy is so heart wrenching and sweet. Plenty of steam and plenty of hoping that ends up working out for an HEA.

GreenwingReads review:

Where to begin? I loved these two so much, I don't know where to start. Lennox is a sweet ray of sunshine. I loved that he'd had a crush on Oliver and that the two of them had been peripherally in each other's lives even before college. He was funny and sweet and exactly what Oliver needed.

My heart hurt for Oliver. He deserved so much love, more than he got from his family (thank God for his sister at least!). He put so much pressure on himself and I felt like he was at risk for some pretty significant mental health issues. Lennox came into his life at just the right time to show him that it was okay to relax. The dynamic between them was sweet, spicy, and romantic. I loved them together so much.

I did have some conflicted feelings about the third act breakup. I felt like Lennox wasn't really fair to Oliver. If he is going to pursue his swimming career and have another shot at the Olympics, I'd think Nationals would be a requirement that he couldn't skip. I could understand why Lennox was upset, but it seemed a bit blown out of proportion. I was glad they worked it out and both guys seemed to understand their role (though Lennox only admitted it to himself).

Hayden's writing style is beautiful and so pleasing to read. He has a way with words that brings out all the emotion in the story. The feelings of the characters were visceral. I'm enjoying this series a lot and looking forward to more!

Heather's Review:

High school crush... intense chemistry... forced proximity and only one bed make for an interesting college athlete romance read from Hayden Hall... This book gives us angst and is full of youthful yearning... 'insurmountable issues' and warring demands mean that these characters have to explore not only their romance, but also what they actually want from their lives. It was a good, solid read for me.
