Bite Marks & Broken Hearts is the kick off to the Killigrew Street investigation team. Be prepared for high paced action and ridiculous antics of a family of unique individuals. An absolutely wonderful start to a brand new exciting series!
From the blurb:
- How to destroy your life: Leave Ireland in the dead of night to flee to London;
- Get yourself dragged into an alley by a demon, marked, and doomed to die;
- Gain a mysterious, fatally attractive stalker/saviour. One with strangely sharp teeth…
I never asked for this.
Okay, maybe a little. After all, the demon was undeniably hot–the perfect way to mend my broken heart.
But I certainly didn’t sign up to become his prey–because now my chest burns with ice as dark magic grows inside me… and he’ll be back to collect it.
Thankfully, I have a saviour. Tall, dark and handsome, though his vintage dress sense is slightly pretentious and his aversion to sunlight is a bit strange…
But if he keeps looking at me like I'm something worth devouring, I might just let him.
What's one more bad decision?
Sebastián
Five centuries has taught me three rules: stay detached, stay focused, and never, never feel too much.
I built Killigrew Street to control London's supernatural underbelly. We keep order in the shadows, we maintain the balance, and we absolutely do not rescue pretty Irish boys and lock them up in our hotel.
Except, apparently, we do now.
He's marked. He's stubborn. He has an infuriating habit of throwing himself headfirst into danger with zero self-preservation. And he’s my problem to solve.
When my protective instincts quickly twist into feelings, I know I should walk away.
But my cold, dead heart seems to have other ideas.
For how long can I keep my true vampiric nature from him?
In the meantime, at least watching him try to figure out why everyone keeps making bat jokes in front of me is… admittedly entertaining.
Bite Marks & Broken Hearts is an adult MM PNR romance. It contains one touch-starved, emotionally guarded vampire, the golden retriever human who’s determined to break down his walls, a found family like no other, snarky wolves, sizzling scenes, some serious fang action, and a HEA.
The Killigrew Street Case Files is a series of standalone paranormal romances where family is forged in the shadows. Each story features a different couple and mystery, connected by their growing supernatural team and overarching plot threads.
Molly Otto's review:
Flynn, being new to London, decides to see the nightlife and become healing from the past he ran away from too bad, and it doesn't go to plan. Sebastian following a demon lays his eyes on Flynn yet doesn't allow himself to act on it, leaving room for Damien, the man who sets the chain of events to change everyone. These two are both recovering from broken hearts in different ways take their time in allowing the other in. Sebastian, in charge of his Killigrew Steet Hotel, a unique team of miscreants, doesn't allow himself distractions after his last heartbreak, yet sweet Flynn works his magic by allowing him to be free once again.
Fast-paced full of action plot that has you drawn in from the start and doesn't hold up til the thrilling conclusion. Be prepared for high emotions, crazy antics of a unique team of paranormal, held together by the thread of a found family built to last for the ages. Great start to this all new series from TJ Rose.
SNik's review:
First in series (The Killigrew Street Case Files). Paranormal. Hurt/comfort. Found family. Slow burn. Dual POV.
New to London, Flynn’s first night out at a club leaves him demon-marked and thrust into the hidden world of supernatural beings where some are out to harm and others are trying their best to protect. After several hundred years of being a vampire, Sebastian now has a purpose, and now he must protect young Flynn from becoming the victim of a dark death.
I really enjoyed the world building and characters in this new series, and especially how Flynn is brought into finding out there are supernatural beings and has no trouble accepting this new world view. The first half of the book was slow for me, the second half was more packed with action but perhaps resolved too quickly. Flynn and Sebastian both really wrenched my heartstrings several times, either due to their hurtful pasts, or their absolute yearning to be with each other. This was an entertaining start to a new series, I am invested in the Killigrew Street crew and can’t wait to see each get their HEA’s.
Angel's review:
I fell in love with TJ's writing when they released their debut book, and I've been a fan ever since then. When I say I am blown away.. I mean it. I'm stunned. The writing was extraordinary! I've never read a paranormal world similar to this one before, everything was so new, fresh, unique, and very creative! TJ I give you props for being able to take creatures that are often written about and making them completely different and your own, that's amazing.
Flynn is a bet untethered after fleeing his hometown and leaving that part of his life behind. One night out in London ends up turning his world upside down in the most unimaginable way possible. He had no idea that there were creatures walking amongst him and fellow humans, not until Seb told him about them. Now he's not only fighting for his life, and answers about what's happening to him, but he's also trying to fight his way past the walls of the stubborn vampire he can't help but to like.
Seb is what you would call an ancient vampire, he's been around for a long time, he's seen and experienced so much. When he saves the feisty young man from a demon he immediately feels a connection to him but knows he has to stay away. He didn't account for Flynn being so determined to be with him, no matter what.
As I mentioned above the writing within this book is exceptional! As soon as I read the first page I was immediately transported into a world full of paranormal creatures and a mystery waiting to be solved, along with quirky and fun characters that were hard to see go after I finished this story. I thought this story flowed SO smoothly, the dialogue between all of the characters was engaging and full of depth, and at times comedic. (Rory I'm referring to you!) The relationship dynamic between the main characters and the side characters was amazing! I loved how the side characters were as important and prevalent to the plotline as the MC's were.
I thought the plotline was absolutely fantastic! It was engaging, full of mystery, constantly evolving, and just when you thought you knew what was going to happen next things changed, which I loved! The plot twist towards the end was not what I was expecting, but oh my gosh was that handled so well.
There is definitely an undercurrent of found family vibes within this story between the crew who live at Killigrew Street. Which I love and adore! They really are a family when they aren't trying to annoy each other. I'm so excited that there is going to be another book within this world, I need more of these characters! Especially Felix, Rory and Kit!
GreenwingReads review:
This was my first TJ Rose book and I picked it up because I thought the blurb sounded intriguing. The story did not disappoint and I was quickly drawn into an underground world of demons, vampires, werewolves, mages, and more!
Sebastian is a 500 year old vampire who is part of an organization that keeps an eye on and investigates crimes in the supernatural world. He leads a group of supernaturals who live in an abandoned hotel in London. At the start of the story, they are investigating a series of deaths caused by an elusive demon. I won't say more than that so I don't spoil anything. The plot was dynamic with plenty of twists and turns I did not see coming, and I'm usually pretty good at guessing.
The romance is a slow burn between our centuries-old, somewhat stodgy vamp and the victim of said demon he is trying to save, 25 year old Irish virgin Flynn. As a newcomer to London, Flynn puts his trust in the wrong person on a fateful night and ends up swept away to an old hotel and into a world he never knew existed. Despite everything he has been through, Flynn is a pretty easy-going, happy guy. He is drawn to Seb in a way he doesn't understand, but is eager to explore. Seb, however, tries his best to keep Flynn at arm's length despite his own feelings drawing him closer. Even after 500 years, Seb is afraid of the monster he believes himself to be and is hesitant to open himself up to Flynn.
I thought the writing was great. All of the characters were well developed and the side characters often added to the humor and intrigue. They were developed enough that I'm eager for their stories. I did feel like the story dragged a bit in places, but never so much that I was put off or lost interest. Add to that, the cover art is gorgeous. I'm one that struggles to picture characters in my mind even when they are well described, so full image cover art is important to me.
I'm looking forward to more from this series, these characters, and this author!
