This is one of those stories that leaves you feeling conflicted, at least that's what my experience was. Two guys kidnapped. How do they handle being held prisoner. Will they turn cowardly or protective?
From the blurb:
Trapped in a nightmare he didn't see coming, Sam wakes up disoriented and afraid, imprisoned within the sterile white walls of a mysterious padded room. His only companion is Eli, a gentle and delicate stranger who shares his confusion and terror. As their forced intimacy deepens, Sam finds himself drawn to Eli's vulnerability, forging a bond that both soothes and unsettles him.
But as the hours blur together and the room's sinister nature becomes clearer, hidden truths begin to surface. Something far darker than imprisonment lurks behind their captivity—something that will push Sam to his breaking point. How far will he go to protect Eli? And how much can they truly trust each other?
A dark, erotic thriller filled with tension, psychological twists, and an explosive secret that will leave you questioning everything you believe about innocence, trust, and desire.
Heed the warnings. Not for the faint-hearted.
Reed Kaye's review:
This is the first story I’ve read by this author. I am having a hard time writing a review. I knew it was advertised as a dark story and it fulfilled that promise.
The story is about two guys who are kidnapped and held prisoners. The story does explain how they were kidnapped. It then goes on to build on a relationship they get for each other and what each is willing to do for the other.
Then the twist to the story happens. It was not what I expected so that part is good. The part I feel is missing is a little longer explanation of the twist and the aftermath.
I will read more by this author.
Short story. Single POV. There should be content warnings for on page SA. Somehow Sam has ended up in a padded room, a prisoner with another boy. He wants to protect Eli, but those feelings become even more intense when violence visits them. This is not a romance and it is a fast peek into a dark situation. As we only have Sam’s POV, his feelings are quick to build and his experiences are well written and vividly descriptive in order to increase the suspense and tension. The ending is slightly up in the air but implies Eli and Sam will be together after surviving a harrowing time. A page turner for those that enjoy dark shorts.
Angel's review:
I'll start by saying this is a DARK and twisted story, its full of dub-con, being kidnapped and a graphic s+++xual assault scene. If any of the above could potentially be triggering for you, I strongly suggest proceeding with caution.
I don't know how I feel about this story, on one hand I liked it because I could see where the author was going with this and what they were trying to achieve. Yet, on the other hand, I feel like this story suffered from being too short. I think the effect the author was going for would've been much more effective if this was significantly longer. That way there would be more time for Sam and Eli to really develop that bond, (even though it would be a trauma bond, but still.)
I appreciate how this author wasn't afraid to go all in on the dark side. I've read a few darker books, but i think this one takes the cake as the darkest. When that scene happened with Sam you could feel Eli's heartbreak and anguish, as well as Sam's. It was difficult to read to be honest, not because it was bad but because it was so graphic. I will say I was immediately suspicious of Sam as soon as the story started, I don't know why, he just gave off bad vibes. I won't explain why that's important but it is!
Overall, this is a decent dark, psychological story. I don't know if I would call this romance, but for what it is, its quite good.
