High school is almost over, and I’m more than ready.
Not because I don’t love Big Bend and everything here. Actually, I’m going to miss it quite a bit, but I’ll have my best friend by my side.
With Austin, I’ll always be okay.
Austin Pierce
I’m keeping some pretty big secrets from my best friend.
Secrets I’m not sure how much longer I can hold onto. Secrets that’ll likely destroy our friendship.
Because he thinks we’re going to college together—but I just can’t do it. I can’t spend any more time with this lie.
Big Bend may have been my beginning, but it never felt quite right. Something was always off—truly, I think it was my false start.
Now it’s time to live my life with nothing but the truth.
SNik's review:
Third in series (Big Bend Bears), but can be read as a standalone. Best friends to lovers. Small town. Nerd/jock. Slow burn. Dual POV.
Austin and Vaughn have been best friends their whole lives, and Vaughn doesn’t see anything changing as they plan to go off to college together. But Austin hasn’t told Vaughn his secret, he is going to a different college to avoid the heartache of being in love with his straight best friend.
I really enjoy when a story has someone embrace their special someone and has no hesitation even if it upends what they always thought. Vaughn has golden retriever energy in that he is absolutely dedicated, protective and needy for Austin to be in his life and when that morphs to love beyond just friendship he embraces it wholeheartedly. These two are so sweet together, every moment on page together demonstrated their closeness and even though Austin’s fears are valid he never gives up on Vaughn either. Both are likable characters, with supportive friends and family, and a cute story made this a smooth slide into an HEA.
This book is fantastic. My favorite Trope is best friends to lovers and this one didn't disappoint. Vaughn and Austin were so close so I thought there'd be a lot of angst when they weren't together but there wasn't. Once Vaughn knew the truth he was all in. It was really sweet and spicy.
Heather's Review:
Best friends to lovers in the best way possible! I love these two and the way their story unfolds... how Austin backs away and Vaughn begins to realize that the void is larger than he ever anticipated... I love that Vaughn is such a sweet and likeable puppy who just wants to love up on Austin and embrace his new feelings. And I love how cautious Austin is, despite finding what he wants more than anything! This book was a contemporary new adult romance with just the right blend of sweet and spicy, young angst and diving into the unknown. It is part of a series but can easily be read standalone.
