Lyric (Love Sync Mates-Season Two) by Wendy Rathbone

Rescuing an omega fleeing an enemy, Lyric and his dragon are drawn to Jinn and promise to protect him. Even under the shadow of possible danger, Jinn and Lyric discover their special mate.

From the Lyric blurb:

Can an alpha athlete and a traumatized omega find true love?

Lyric is a famous alpha athlete, a dragon shifter racer known as the fastest flier in the world.

Jinn is a rare omega dragon shifter who finds himself in trouble one night when he meets an alpha at a bar who won't leave him alone and who ends up being his stalker.

When Lyric is on a break from racing and goes to spend time at his private roost in the middle of the woods, he sees an omega running naked through the foliage as if fleeing for his life. When he realizes the omega is being chased by a feral dragon, he fights the out-of-control dragon and protects Jinn with all his might.

A bond quickly forms between the two, so powerful and unexpected that each man begins to question if their feelings are real.

An MM dragon shifter romance with two men who discover they are each other’s true mate. Rescue, hurt/comfort, omega heat, needy omega, protective alpha, mpreg and an HEA.

Lyric is part of the Love Sync Mates multi-author series but can be read as a standalone. It is also set in the author’s own Alpha Dragons universe.

SNik's review:

Part of a multi-author series (Love-Sync Mates-Season 2), but can be read as a standalone. Paranormal. Alpha/omega. MPreg. Hurt/comfort. Quick read. Dual POV.

Dragon omegas are rare, and unfortunately Jinn has attracted the wrong kind of attention from a crazed Alpha. When he is forced to run, the famous dragon racer Lyrican comes to his rescue and the protection instinct runs high as Lyrican is sure that Jinn/Jinnan is their mate.

Although set in the author’s Alpha Dragon’s universe, this can be read on its own and the world build is touched on enough to get familiar with. The relationship builds quickly and their dragon half’s instinctual recognition of their mate pulls their human counterparts into allowing their bond to happen quickly. Slightly predictable but still entertaining, this quick read will satisfy anyone looking for a protective Alpha, an endangered omega, an immediate acceptance of attraction and a spicy bonding.

GreenwingReads review:

I'm fairly new to Wendy's books and this is the first PNR of theirs that I read. While I enjoyed the other books I read, I think PNR is where her writing really shines.

I love that her books aren't terribly long, perfect for a lazy afternoon and can be mostly read in one sitting. Despite being on the shorter side, the plot is still well developed and nothing is left unanswered.

At first, the use of two names for characters to distinguish between the dragon and human sides was off-putting, but I got used to it quickly. I think it was the way that it was written that threw me off and it was only done a couple times (Lyric/Lyrican). Most shifter romances that I've read don't give the animal its own name, but it made sense in this world as the dragon and the human are really two separate beings. They don't share a consciousness and while they can feel each other's emotions and "speak" to each other internally, they don't seem to be able to read each other's thoughts. Lyrican was able to keep secrets from Lyric. Lyrican is also able to "push" Lyric's consciousness aside and keep him from regaining control, which was surprising to me. That does possibly explain why Coltan went feral though.

The romance between Lyric and Jinn was sweet and I thought Jinn's dragon (Jinnan) was really cute. I would have liked to see more scenes of the dragon interacting together; there was only one brief description of it. Lyrican was pretty grumpy compared to Lyric's bright personality and Jinn's sweetness. It did seem like Lyrican didn't really like Lyric, though it was clear that Lyric loved Lyrican. I couldn't quite tell if that was Lyrican's personality or if he really was resentful of Lyric.

I enjoyed the romance immensely and the secondary plot with Jinn and Colt also kept me on the edge of my seat, though I was able to more or less guess what was going to happen. Overall, I really liked the story and would read more from this world. Wendy's unique take on shifters was pretty intriguing.
