The first in the Wright Brother series, On Circus Lane finally brings Tom and Bee's story to glorious, snowy life. Funny, hot, and wonderful.
From the blurb:
The first time Bee Bannister met Tom Wright, he couldn’t stand him.
Everything about the man aggravated him—his perfect hair and body, his confident arrogance, and the way he looked straight through Bee.
Which is why it’s such an unpleasant shock to find that he’ll be sharing space with him while on a Christmas holiday with friends in Scotland.
However, as the days fly by and snowy Edinburgh begins to work its magic on him, Bee discovers that sometimes first impressions can be very misleading. Tom is kind and funny, and somehow, rather than looking through Bee, he actually sees and likes all of him.
The two men grow closer, but will Bee follow his heart or his head when the holiday ends? And can relationships that start so badly ever lead to love?
From bestselling author Lily Morton comes a festive romantic comedy about enemies to lovers and the magic of Christmas.
On Circus Lane is the first book in the Wright Brothers series.
Rogue's review:
- romantic comedy
- series
- low angst
This is, for me, a long awaited story. Although this is ostensibly the first in the Wright Brothers duet, Merry Measure came out a few years ago, and it's where we met Tom and Bee for the first time. So, knowing how their story ends I wondered how I'd deal with reading their story knowing the ending, as it were. I shouldn't have worried as Lily has worked her magic again with Tom and Bee. This is set in Edinburgh, a city I know reasonably well but seeing it through Tom and Bee's eyes, led to me see that city with new eyes. I've been to a lot of those places and it was a joy to visit with Tom, Bee and their friends. It was so nice to 'see' some of them again, some (one of them - looking at you Steven) not so much.
The story itself is a delight, starting with a miscommunication and wrong impression between the two, but that is soon defused and they proceed to get to know each other, and honestly the friend group makes things so much better. I laughed out loud more than once, as is my usual reading one of Lily's stories. It's a fairly slow burn but there's good chemistry between the two and I just couldn't put it down. I absolutely loved this, and now I'm off to re-read Merry Measure.
SNik's review:
First in series (The Wright Brothers). Slow burn. Dual POV.
First in series (The Wright Brothers). Slow burn. Dual POV.
When Bee meets Tom for the first time he seems like a real jerk, and of course they will be on holiday together with a group of mutual friends, but Bee’s sort of a genius so he can certainly stay away from the hottie for a few days. Tom works to get on Bee’s good side, but he doesn’t want just one night, Bee might be “the one” for Tom, so he sets out to woo Bee as they tour Edinburgh together.
The attraction is obvious, but Bee and Tom start a flirty friendship that allows them to discover each other and find similarities and differences that make them enjoy each other’s company beyond lust. I enjoyed that there is a sweetness to Tom working so hard to make Bee happy, and Bee doesn’t realize just how important Tom becomes to him until he almost misses his chance with him. Luckily, Bee and Tom have supportive friends and family that encourage them, and Tom never gives up on the clueless Bee which is swoony all on its own.
