Gratification in Gluttony (Passing Through Cafe #2) by Nik Knight

Gratification in Gluttony is book 2 in the Passing Through Cafe series and this time we have the story written from the paranormal's POV! Yes! this book is spent with the fabulous Toni who is ready to woo Jude, the human bestie of the Oliver from book 1.

From the Gratification in Gluttony blurb:

When Jude entered The Passing Through Cafe, Toni thought he’d be nothing more than a fun night, a challenge to win, a fixation to satisfy; Toni didn’t expect Jude to be exactly what he never knew he was looking for.

As the rightful heir to the Maryno family dynasty, Toni grew up with clear expectations of who he was supposed to be, and more importantly, who he wasn’t. Growing up a constant disappointment isn’t a childhood experience he recommends, but he’s come a long way from the little boy who could never measure up to his family’s toxic standards. At twenty-nine, he’s finally proud of the man he’s built himself into, and while the routine of his life is simple and, sure, sometimes lonely, he’s content.

Or so he thought.

Enter Jude, a human from across the veil, who ignites something in him that he’s never allowed himself to explore, and Toni can’t wait to burn. While the spark of attraction is instantaneous, he knows it’s going to take more than a romp in the hay to win the human over. So Toni quickly sets to work, proving to Jude that home can be found in the most unexpected places, that chosen family is always worth fighting for, and that their love is far from small.

Join Toni and the rest of the eccentric staff of The Passing Through Cafe in Nik Knight’s rom-com urban fantasy series, full of found family, hilarious hijinks, spectacular self-discovery, and love that defies definition.

I adored the fact that this book was in Toni's POV. He's such a fun and likable MC to spend time with. Toni may have dealt with a lot of hurt in his life in regard to his family, but he didn't let it dull his shine. He truly is one of the sweetest men on his side of the veil. His reaction to Jude's explanation of being trans was just perfect. Tony just could not figure out what the big deal was with other people caring about Jude's identity. Bless his heart. His friendship with Gem was such a highlight. Those two really are platonic soulmates.

Jude was on my bad list for a bit in this book. Since we didn't get to spend time in his head, he was harder to get a read on. And his actions at some points made me angry. To be fair, he does apologize. And of course, Toni, saint that he is, forgives him. I don't know if I would have forgiven as easily. I just hated Toni being upset.

I think my favorite parts of the book were the times when the Passing Through crew was together. Zef is a favorite. I really hope they get a book in the future. It would be interesting to see what they are like if they ever find another being interesting enough. I'm curious how they came to be so comfortable touching Tad and how their new living situation is going to play out. I was also totally getting vibes again between Gem and Rusty. I have a feeling those two are next. And I'm betting we find out just how good Gem is with those six hands of his. ;)
