The Roommate Situation is the first book in a new college romance series. It's a mid-level angsty romance between Rory, an art major healing from an abusive relationship, and Parker, a phys ed major with habit of stress baking and a caretaker streak a mile wide.
From the blurb:
Rory
Coming home to find my boyfriend in bed with another guy is not how I expected my birthday to go.
When my two best friends find out, they help me with moving my things out of the apartment and trying to find a new roommate. In the meantime they take me out to get my mind off Zach and get laid. I’m really not sure I’m up for it, but I let them drag me out anyway.
I’m not exactly the cream of the crop when it comes to the dating pool, and all of the messages I’ve been getting from Zach since I broke it off with him are only solidifying that in my mind.
To my surprise though, not only does a guy notice me, he’s got to be the hottest guy I’ve ever seen. But when I finally gather my courage and try to spice things up with him, it goes horribly wrong and I run away mortified and in tears. My only saving grace is that I’ll probably never see him again.
But then I see a response to my ad looking for a roommate, and when I show up to meet the guy the following day and take a look at the apartment, who should answer the door but Hottie McHotness himself.
Just shoot me now.
Parker
When I spotted the adorable little twink in the bow tie and suspenders at the club I was instantly attracted to him. All that wavy brown hair and the cute as hell glasses. But when he runs away in tears, I’m terrified I’ve done something to upset him, and I don’t know how to make it right.
When he shows up at my doorstep the following day and I realize he’s my potential new roommie I can’t believe my luck. He seems nervous and shy, but so sweet.
The more time we’re together, the more I realize what a number his turd of an ex did on him, and I’m determined to make sure he knows how amazing he really is, and that he deserves someone who will appreciate and care for him.
As the weeks go on I’m hoping more and more that that someone can be me.
The Roommate Situation is a 60k word college mm romance with a golden retriever himbo and an adorable twink. It features neurodivergent representation (one mc has noise sensitivity), size difference, forced proximity, panties and lingerie, and supportive friends and family. It is intended for readers 18 and older.
CW: On page emotional abuse and cheating by a previous partner (not between mcs), one mc has needle phobia and noise sensitivity, and there is some brief on page anxiety
GreenwingReads review:
The Roommate Situation is the first book in a new college romance series. It's a mid-level angsty romance between Rory, an art major healing from an abusive relationship, and Parker, a phys ed major with habit of stress baking and a caretaker streak a mile wide.
Both MCs and the side characters were immensely likeable (except for Rory's garbage ex, obviously). I don't think I've disliked a character as much as I loathed Rory's ex, honestly. TW here for emotional abuse. It's both on page in several scenes and in flashbacks as Rory realizes just how awful Zach was.
But I have to be a little thankful for Zach's horrible actions because they are what indirectly propel Rory to his new roommate, Parker. Rory and Parker meet at a club the night before their "official" introduction, and Rory is mortified when he realizes who his new roommate is. But Parker is thrilled.
Rory isn't just going through a bad breakup, he's also navigating a pretty intense disorder and has some major sensory sensitivities. In the past, he was made to feel guilty over the things about his body he could not control. But with Parker, he finally finds the understanding, acceptance, and care he deserves, and he begins to bloom. But Rory is scared of being duped again and the scars left by his ex run deep.
I absolutely loved Parker. He could be a bit dense, but his heart was always in the right place and he tried to hard to do right by and take care of Rory. Parker is the definition of Golden Retriever energy.
Rory was adorable. He kept a lot to himself until it became to much to carry, but Parker was always patient with him, even during his outbursts. I cannot imagine having to navigate what Rory does on a daily basis, and despite that, Rory was so kind and gentle. With Parker's unconditional love and support, Rory was able to heal, grow, and come in to his own. Reading that journey was such a treat and so impactful. I was cheering for them the whole time and swooned over the ending, especially the epilogue.
I'm looking forward to more from this series and really interested to see what is going on between Parker and Rory's friends.
