The Good Liar (Infidelity #1) by C.P. Harris - Review and Giveaway

If you haven’t yet fallen in love with CP Harris – either through the pages of 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐁𝐨𝐲 𝐖𝐡𝐨 𝐋𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐝 𝐖𝐢𝐜𝐤𝐞𝐝 or  𝐁𝐚𝐝 𝐖𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 - then it’s about time you were introduced.

Because THIS, The Good Liar, is CP Harris at her page-turning best, delivering another difficult-to-put-down story that you will devour!

From the blurb:

Six years ago, Jasper Des Moines traded in the only life he knew. In order to keep a promise and a secret, he walked from the only man he’d ever loved.

Now, he has a career in need of constant defending, a best friend who knows nothing about his past, and a husband he should love. He has the life he believes he deserves.

Until one day, the unfinished business he’d left behind catches up with him, and he’s faced with the one man he’d never been able to resist or forget.

Cole Kincaid arrives in New York City with ulterior motives, but good intentions. He simply wants a place in Jasper’s world again. And if Jasper is happy, then so is he. But as the truth of Jasper’s new life unfolds, the role Cole wants to play in it begins to shift.

He soon reminds himself that Jasper belongs to him, and no promises made before God to a man who isn’t him will ever change that.

Cole’s presence threatens the carefully constructed life of penance Jasper has created. And while Jasper is focused on maintaining the existence he’d rightfully earned, Cole tempts him with the existence he actually wants.

Tragedy might have torn them apart, but lies will bring them together again.

**The Good Liar is Book 1 in the Infidelity series. Each book features a new couple, can be read as a stand-alone, and ends with a HEA. Themes include possessiveness, jealousy, and second chances. Both MCs are consenting adults. Please use the “Look Inside” feature for a full list of tropes and trigger warnings.

Zakiyya's Review:

Her characters are enthralling and she has an extraordinary talent for writing the most jealous and possessive MC's.

The pain and grief are done so well – every heartache, every pining moment can be felt like it’s your own.

Writing so powerful that the words and characters demand its audiences understanding instead of judgement.

The sex? – HOLY HELLFIRE – the sex seems to get filthier and hotter with every book she writes…🔥🌶️🥵🔥

When Cole and Jasper reignite a flame that’s never stopped burning, all you can do is hang on for the ride right alongside them as you feel that fiery hot passion burn deep into your very core.

A story about love and loss, passion and forgiveness – if there is ever just one book that you want to take a chance on – let it be this one – YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED!!

And to think I once felt I’d never be able to handle a book that had the word ‘cheating’ associated with it... 🤦🏻‍♀️

Jacqueleen the Reading Queen's Review:

The Good Liar surprised me in many ways. For one, I had no idea this was a stepbrothers romance. I mean holy hell that's one of my favorite tropes! To be honest I barely glanced at the TW, which there are many. Just enough to make sure none of the ones that bothered me were present. I tuned out any that weren't since I worried they'd be spoilery. Another thing that surprised me was the level of angst. I mean if compared to other authors I'd say it was pretty high, but if we are comparing to Miss Harris' other works such as The Boy Who Loved Wicked or Bad Wrong Things, I'd say it's actually closer to low. I didn't end this book feeling like my heart was ripped out of my chest and pulverized to dust like I did with those two books. If I had to say anything about my feelings at the end of this book I would choose satisfied, which will make sense when you read it.

This book was decidedly filthy. I expected the delicious obsessive and toxic behavior, but these two take jealousy to a whole other level. Like some kind of fucked up foreplay. It doesn't matter that Cole is dominant and Jasper often submissive, they are equally ruled by their jealousy. When these two are together nobody else exists, and that includes Jasper's husband. The husband who makes Cole want to spontaneously combust with anger. The husband who likes things incredibly tidy and the only flavor of sex he knows is vanilla. The husband Jasper chose as his punishment for a crime he wrongly believes he committed.

"It took everything to maintain a neutral expression as Daniel ran his hands over Jasper at the dinner table last night. I wanted to clear the dishes way with a sweep of my arm. I wanted to fuck Jasper right there and make Daniel watch. I wanted to show him how Jasper loved to be touched. How he loved to be taken not asked. School him on what it meant to bring him pleasure. And I wanted him to choke on it."

The husband is very present in this book. I'm talking we even get a few chapters from his POV present. There is no hiding the fact that cheating is occurring in this story, but what is hidden very well is who the title of this book refers to. To be honest I'm still slightly unsure which makes it such a perfect title. I'm also insanely curious about Cole and Jasper's father Franklin and a certain mouthy friend. If what I'm thinking is true, then this friend showing up at the perfect time in Cole's life has turned suspect for sure. And if book 2, The Infidelist, is about them - I'm also sure that things are about to get fucked. I can hardly wait!

Heather's Review:

The Good Liar was delicious - obsessive, dark and toxic, with sweet and caring moments... angst and strife warred with love and want.  If you're someone who is triggered, please read the warnings - there are many and they all make the story richer and more twisted, but I'd hate for you to lose yourself in this debauched tale and get hurt by it...

This book was filthy and depraved, and not for the reasons you might think... because the ending is oh so deliciously good!

I want to say more, but I'm afraid I'll spoil it for you - just read the damn book and you'll know what I mean.

Molly's Review:

Step brothers romance done right. There is so much beautiful tension between these characters that it's palpable you want them together even if it means some people will be hurt in the process. Both men must do some growing to see they should be together and move past their mistakes to get their hea. These are not perfect characters, and that's what makes them work together so well.

It's a well worth your time read even if you will be mad at both characters at one point or another while reading.
