The Loneliest Dragon at Christmas is another fabulous hurt/comfort holiday story from Gigi Rivers. A lonely dragon finds a connection with Jack, but if they can overcome their financial and societal differences Jack is more than happy to share his love and his family with Avery.
From the blurb:
Will a lonely dragon find love this Christmas? Or is he destined to spend another year on his own?
Avery is a wealthy dragon from a powerful bloodline with a hoard of books. Despite this, he lives a solitary life and spends every Christmas alone. Still, he dreams of one day finding a mate with whom he could share the holiday (and his books).
As a hearth witch working in the poor part of town, Jack is often looked down upon. When Avery walks into his bakery, Jack mistakes him for an upper-class servant. Captivated by Avery’s stunning golden eyes and brilliant coppery hair, Jack invites Avery to the Christmas markets.
Avery is beyond thrilled. Maybe he won’t be alone this Christmas! But when Jack realises that Avery is no mere servant, he starts to have doubts. Could a wealthy dragon and a poor baker really build a life together?
Will Jack and Avery overcome their differences? Or will Avery once again be the loneliest dragon at Christmas?
The Loneliest Dragon at Christmas is a cosy fantasy romance with plenty of spice. It features cosy Christmas vibes, a witch baker snowed in with a dragon, lots of cuddling surrounded by a hoard of books, and a guaranteed HEA. Whilst this book is part of a series, it can be read as a standalone.
SNik's review:
Part of a series (An MM Monster Christmas), but can be read as a standalone. Paranormal. Hurt/comfort. Found family. Dual POV.
Avery leads a solitary existence but a chance meeting with baker Jack opens up the possibility to build a forever relationship. There’s no doubt Jack is interested in Avery, but he’s afraid their differences will be too much to overcome, since Jack is just a poor kitchen witch and Avery is a wealthy dragon.
This author never fails to deliver a huge amount of feels, the hurt/comfort and relatable feelings of inadequacy and self doubt from both Avery and Jack brought me to tears. Avery is too sweet being sheltered and starved for affection, and the times Jack gets out of his own head he is so giving and only wants to make Avery happy. Jack’s supportive family become even more important to both Avery and Jack and they find their way through after stumbling over their personally created hurdles. Another romantic holiday read for this series.
Rogue's Review:
- Christmas
- Dragon shifter
- paranormal
- found family
This is part of a series, it can be read standalone but I've read others in this series and it is best enjoyed as part of that whole. This is Avery and Jack's story. Avery is a dragon shifter, and Jack a hearth and kitchen witch who is also a baker and loves to make people happy through food. Avery is alone in the world, his mother died young and his father pays for his home but otherwise isn't in his life.
More than once I really felt Avery's total loneliness and distance from the world. He literally has nobody on his side and just wants that connection with others that everyone else seems to have. It almost brought me to tears, how isolated and alone he was. I loved his budding relationship with Jack though, these two just work together - bringing Avery the family and connections he's always wanted and giving that other half he's always wanted to care for. Jack tore my heart apart too more than once, and I was so pleased to see these two finally managing to put all their differences aside and find their way to each other.
I almost punched the air when Avery finally stood up to his tyrant father too, very satisfying. I loved this and can't wait for more of Jack's family to get their stories.

Angel's review:
"This is the first Christmas I can remember where I haven’t been alone."
Jack gripped his hand. "And you’ll never be alone again. You’ll always have me. Merry Christmas, my love."
"Merry Christmas, my mate."
Jack and Avery's story has been my favorite so far in this series. Both of these men need to be showered in love and get tons of hugs and cuddles. And they give those things to each other and they also give so much more too. Jack and Avery are adorable together, I love how shy and quiet Avery is, and how even when things got awkward Jack did his best to help put Avery at ease. I found the connection they have with each other to be quite strong and even though they hit a rough patch, they were able to communicate with one another and work through the problem.
I thought the pacing of the story was good, everything flowed really smoothly. The characters all provided great dialogue, and Jack's family helped portray that found family trope that I love. Avery wants to have a family that loves him, and now he has one, and that is just so precious!
I liked the details that went into Jack's day-to-day at the bakery, along with the intricate details describing Avery in his dragon form, in addition to describing his massive book collection. Also known as; his horde.
Overall a really sweet Christmas story featuring opposites attract, found family, Holiday festivities, baked goods, and an obsession with books.
