Silver Screens and Broken Dreams is the second instalment in Austin and Dylan's story and directly carries on from the first book. There's angst and heartbreak here.
From the blurb:
Hollywood's shimmering facade often masks the hardest truths, a lesson Austin Ridge knows all too well. Navigating the treacherous waters of fame, he wrestles with the shadows of a past romance that threatens to cloud his future.
In this sequel to Footlights and Forever, Austin returns, struggling with unresolved feelings for his ex, Dylan Cooper. As Austin tries to forge a path forward, he finds himself drawn back into the orbit of the man who was forced to move on without him. Each encounter with Dylan is a reminder of what was lost and a test of Austin's resolve.
Dylan Cooper, thriving in his role as a creative force behind the camera, faces unexpected challenges when his past collides with his present. With Austin Ridge lurking in his past as well as on the big screen, Dylan must navigate the complex emotions of his past and a new love.
As old feelings resurface in the glare of studio lights, Austin must decide if he can truly let go or if the past is worth a second act. With every moment on set, the lines between past and present blur, pushing Austin to confront the reality of his choices. In a world where the camera never stops rolling, can Austin step out of his own shadow to find a spotlight that truly belongs to him?
Rogue's review:
- series
- continuing story
- not standalone
This is the second in this series, it's meant to be read as a series and doesn't stand alone at all. This picks up a short time after the cliffhanger ending of the first book, and follows Dylan and Austin as they try to navigate life apart. I wasn't sure going in to this, as I really didn't like Austin very much after the end of book 1, but now I think I may have changed my mind a little.
I started this with good intentions of reading a little before I went to sleep, but the next time I looked at the percentage on my kindle it was at 94% 😂. I got so engrossed and lost in the story I read it in pretty much one sitting. Austin is so full of regret for his actions and the author does such a good job of making Austin relatable and I could almost feel his pain. At one point it even made me cry (and that isn't an easy thing to do, I'm remarkably hard-hearted when it comes to stories).
I absolutely love this series, it's been a while since I read one that continues with the same characters and this episode really advances their story, with equal time for both men. There's also a nice easter egg if you've read Five Star Review 😉.
So now the next part can't come soon enough, I think both Austin and Dylan have been through enough apart and it's time for them to get their HEA, and I for one am HERE for that. Bring. It. On.
