Welcome to the darker side of Takoda. FILLING THE VOID is part one of the Devils Deal Duology from Sammi Cee.
From the blurb:
Sometimes you have to make deals with the devil to save the people you love.
I belong in the shadows. My profession demands it.
It’s a risk going to Takoda, where the new Buccelli Boss knows my face, but I’ve gone too long without checking in on a situation that concerns me.
I knew better.
Now a debt’s been called in, and there’s Corey. Muscular, gorgeous, broken Cory. A boy who thinks he’s too old for a Daddy.
I won’t leave him alone…I can’t.
Filling the Void is book one in the Devil’s Deal Duology. One problem solved brings a HFN, but there is an overall story arc.
**There is vigilante justice and the threat of rape. Please be kind to yourself and your mental health and avoid this one if those are triggering to you.**
Molly Otto's review:
We have now entered the dark side of Takoda after reading the beautifully sweet side first. We have Bosley (yes, Chips temporary daddy from Chips Forever Daddy) who comes to visit Omar and the Love on Tap family and is drawn back into the world he's long stayed away from. Cory is an older boy who lost the first love of his life and is learning to move forward. These two have undeniable chemistry from the start that soars with each interaction. Two broken men who need the other to be once again whole. A great start to this side of Takoda. This book does end on a HFN, that is sure to bring us more adventures with the next installment.
SNik's review:
First in duology (Devil’s Deal). Daddy/boy. Mature characters. Found family. Dual POV. Heed content warnings.
Bosley is an attentive killer for hire that comes across boutique hotel owner Cory and sparks fly as they embark on casual Daddy/boy interactions while Bosley is in town on business. But the mafia is trying to draw Bosley in and there is someone causing trouble at the hotel, so while Bosley and Cory try to navigate possible feelings they are also dodging other looming problems.
This was a quick read, introducing some interesting characters and their found families, some cameos from the author’s previous books, as well as having some danger lurking as a sweet Daddy/boy relationship blossoms. Bosley is protective and sweet with Cory, while Cory is very capable in his own right but accepts the comfort of having someone there to take care of him as well. Intriguing start to a duet, ending with a HFN, but with plenty of strings to tie up in the overarching plotline.
Heather's Review:
I was a little hesitant to pick up Filling the Void as I don't typically read 'darker' stories, but I'm glad I took a chance on this one, because as dark as the actions of the character are, for the most part what we see is redeeming in some way...
As for the main characters, it's fun to watch them circle each other and learn about each other I also absolutely adore Corey's quirky language choices and the fun way his hotel is described. For me, the light outweighs the dark and we get cameos from some of the other Takoda daddies and boys to round out the experience.
I can't wait to see what is to come in the next book...
