Legally Brawn (Rom-Com Reboot) by DJ Jamison

We are back to DJ Jamison's Rom Com Reboot series with Legally Brawn. This is a low angst sweet romance where we have the bubbly and muscular Ellis off to law school where his best friend Jordan will have a front show seat to watching to man he's in love with try to win back the love of someone else.

From the blurb:

Sometimes you have to fight for true love....

When my boyfriend dumps me to find someone more "serious" in law school, I'm devastated but not defeated. I just have to show him I have brains as well as brawn, right?

Thankfully, my best friend Jordan is ready and willing to help me get into law school and prove myself. Only when I get there, ready to reclaim my man, Clay's move on.

To the snarkiest gay boy I've ever met.

And they're engaged!

It's a terrible shock, but Jordan keeps me going. When I'm ostracized from a study group, he helps me prepare for exams. When I'm set up to make a fool of myself at a college party, he's there to rescue me.

After I land an internship to work on a real legal case, it seems it's all paid off. And most surprising of all? I love this lawyering thing!

Clayton, on the other hand, is looking less appealing by the day.

Jordan is the one I want to talk to morning and night. The one I can count on to support me. The one who...I really want to kiss?

Whoa. Maybe it's time to review the evidence and decide once and for all.

Have I been fighting for the wrong man? And will Jordan forgive me that justice has been so blind?

Because I'm pretty sure of the verdict now.

I've fallen in love with my best friend.

Legally Brawn is Book 3 of the Rom-Com Reboot series, in which classic Hollywood rom-coms get an M/M spin, along with some heat and a satisfying HEA!

Molly Otto's review:

Just adore DJ for writing this series! This time, she took on Legally Blonde and gave it a queer twist. You have Ellis, who is the sweetest, most open-minded human ever who was dumped when his boyfriend got into law school saying he wanted "brain over brawn." Little did Clayton know Ellis is both, thanks in help of his best friend, Jordan, he gets into law school. There, he learns he's better as himself. Jordan liked Ellis forever but was too afraid to take that next step, afraid he would lose his friendship. When in law school together they become closer and see how good they can be together. Was great to see the guys from Seattle, as well as Skylar, from the Swallow Cove series show their support for their friends as well as enjoying their movie nights. It's just a fun series that has you smiling with each addition to see how DJ changes the original to fit the queer genre.

SNik's review:

Third in series (Rom-Com Reboot), but can be read as a standalone. Best friends to lovers. Slow burn. Dual POV.

A retelling of the movie Legally Blonde, Ellis is dumped by his longtime boyfriend for someone more serious, so Ellis studies to get into law school and win him back. Jordan, a law and business graduate student, is Ellis’s best friend, and is happy to help Ellis study for law school, but his heart hurts to think of Ellis getting back together with his ex, because Jordan has loved Ellis almost since the day they met.

Ellis is a sweet physical trainer that has the brains to back up his efforts, and Jordan is the beyond supportive best friend that will do anything to make Ellis happy. A fun mm take on a popular movie, with likable characters to root for, with one not seeing what is right in front of him. This was a fun read, with some cameos of characters from previous books of course.

Jacqueleen the Reading Queen's review:

Ellis and Jordan were just so freaking cute!! Actually come to think of it, every single one of these Rom Com Reboot novellas have been. There is something so fun in reading DJ Jamison put their MM spin on popular romantic comedies. As a big fan of legally blonde, I was excited when I realized it was going to be the "theme" of Ellis and Jordan's book.

Ellis was such a sunshine character. He radiated kindness and joy in his life and others. I cannot for the life of me think how his ex Clayton thought he could do better than a man like him. Lucky for Ellis, he does have a man in his life that treats him exactly the way he deserves. The problem is that man is Ellis' best friend Jordan. A man whom Ellis has no idea is in love with him.

Jordan may not always know to how to say the right things, but his actions speak louder than his words. He's in love with Ellis, but he also respects that Ellis thinks himself to be in love with another man. Knowing friendship is all that is on the table, Jordan continually supports Ellis in his endeavors whether or not it hurts him in return.

It doesn't take long for Ellis to realize what a mistake he's made in pining after his ex. Being in law school means spending quite a bit of time with Jordan and this causes Ellis to start to see all the ways in which his best friend differs from his ex. What would it be like to be in love with a man like Jordan? A person who cares for him and goes out of his way to make Ellis happy. Thankfully Ellis doesn't have to wonder for long because true to his personality he takes the bull by the horns and finds out for himself leading our two MCs into the sweet as pie HEA I was hoping for.

Heather's Review:

I think this has been my favourite rom-com reboot from the series... Ellis was adorable and I love how his fitness background blended seamlessly into the case and how absolutely adorable he is!  Jordan is also a lovely human and the cast of side characters definitely gave off Legally Blonde vibes and bolstered the rom-com experience.

While there were definitely marked differences in the way the story was presented, it held true to the movie and the sweet and spicy romance between Ellis and Jordan was a lovely compliment to the overall esthetic of the book.

If you always wanted to see Legally Blonde remade as a M/M Romance, now's your chance to pick up Legally Brawn and devour it!
