No Escape (Redemption's End Book One) by Bianca Sommerland

Get ready for a wild ride in No Escape! Fast past action from start to finish that will have you asking where did the time go?

From the blurb:

One chance.

One mistake.

And Axton Hawthorn’s already reached his limit. As a courtless shadow fae on his own, with only his skills as a thief to keep him alive, Axton has nothing to fight for besides his freedom.

Until he’s imprisoned for his crimes, then has his prison break foiled by an order of supernaturals who keep exposure from humans to a minimum—or something like that. He wasn’t really paying attention until the last part. His choices are simple.

Join them or die.

Yeah...he’ll look for another option until they give him a damn good reason not to.

Edric ‘King’ Kingston should never have been allowed into the High Guard in The Géillsin. Hellhounds are meant to be chained in the apocalyptic demon realm, not secretly protecting the human one as a high ranking soldier. Leading reluctant young law breakers and teaching them to use their skills for the good of their kind isn’t what he would’ve signed up for, but it’s all he has left to give to prove he’s not the cursed creature he was born as.

He owes his life to one man. To a moment when someone saw more in him. The only way to pay that debt is to make sure the man’s son survives.

Falling for Axton would be a very bad idea. He’s reckless and defiant. Forces the order to make new rules he can’t work his way around. But Edric can’t look away from the trainwreck he’s brought to the doorstep of the place that represents everything he believes in.

And hope Axton’s presence will even their odds against forces threatening to destroy everything they’ve built.

While the man he can’t stay away from seems determined to watch it burn.

Molly Otto's review:

Well, buckle up and get ready for a wild ride. This book is fast-paced action with all the feelings. It will gut you then put you back together, all the while not letting go until you finish. This is not your typical romance. These men are faulted and broken, but together, they are better and stronger. The Guard was formed to protect outsiders from the cruelty of the world, but to be part, you have to endure a lot. You have to prove your true worth. All these characters are completely engaging, and you just want them to find their place. A truly magnificent read.

Angel's review:

Going into this book I was not prepared for everything I read, I was expecting a romance between two men from slightly different worlds figuring out how to be together... What I got was so much more than that.

What intrigued me the most about this book is that it's not just one type of world or genre. The world this book takes place in is dystopian, and also being full of magic and fantasy, while simultaneously having 'real' attributes as well. This world is very unique and quite creative, I enjoyed learning more about this world as I continued reading the story.

Axton's character is a bundle of fury, understandably so but he speaks and acts before he thinks which gets him into trouble. His character at the beginning started off so jaded, angry, bitter, and alone... And by the end of the book we get to see his character really come into his own, he grows as an individual and also learns how to be a good friend to those he cares about. The bond he forms with Lyric is so sweet, and he also forms a strong bond with Nicky as well. Those three formed a strong trio, that soon turned into a squad.

I personally enjoyed getting to learn about all of these characters, I don't think any of the characters that are apart of this story can be classified as 'side characters'. Each and every one played a massive role in this story, and they each had their own individual personality along with having their own back stories too. They helped provide excellent dialogue and while some members of the guard are more grumpy than others, I adored each and every character by the end of the book.

The pacing of this story does start off a bit slow, it's a lot of Axton trying to escape but being caught each time, along with ending up accidentally hurting someone. However, the longer the story went on the pacing flowed better and was much smoother. The action scenes I thought were great, they were described with a beautiful, yet terrifying amount of details depicting what exactly was happening.

The relationship that developed between Axton and Edric was filled with fire, I liked how they took things slow, but didn't deny how they were feeling about each other any longer.

I loved seeing each of these characters embracing themselves and caring for one another openly. While I wasn't expecting sharing to be apart of this story, it fit with they way the characters are. It just made sense. I'm eager to see what's going to happen next, and who'll fall in love with who. I hope Jae ends up staying instead of leaving with awful prince, hopefully there will be answers for that in the next book!. Overall a great book that's really unique and is completely captivating!

No Escape is currently available as an e-book and paperback
