Spotlight Saturday: A Daddy for Christmas: Ryu by Layla Dorine

Our second #SpotlightSaturday brings us Christmas in June. A Daddy for Christmas:Ryu brings together a grumpy daddy and a boy who was originally not meant to be his. He's not going anywhere.  Enjoy the excerpt!

From the blurb:

When a Secret Santa matchup sends Ryu to the wrong Daddy, will it be a pleasant surprise for both of them or will grumpy Kissmass Daddy Hank prove why he's been alone for over a year?

The moment Hank lay eyes on the basket outside his door he figured someone down at the club was playing a joke on him. The boy was adorable but certainly not meant for him. Learning who Ryu was meant for changed everything though, and suddenly the man who wasn’t interested in the package on his doorstep was loudly declaring Ryu his.

Never in his wildest dreams did he think that simple statement would change his bleak holiday season into one of hope and love.

Excerpt:

“Ready, Ryu?” Daddy called from the kitchen.

Shoving his hands beneath the couch cushions, Ryu checked there and found a quarter, a crumpled wrapper, and Daddy’s phone, but no binky. He was just about to tell Daddy exactly what was wrong when a rattling clatter caught his attention and he spotted kitty racing down the hall, his binky spinning in front of her.

“Binky!” he cried, racing after it.

Murph!

Artemis was faster than him and snatched it up, her tail disappearing behind the washing machine before he could reach it. Dropping to his knees, Ryu shoved his arm between it and the wall, fingertips brushing her fur before she scrunched further away and hissed at him.

“Give it back!” Ryu demanded.

Merow!

“Ryu, what in the world is going on?” Daddy asked, his shadow falling over Ryu as he tried to stretch his arm further behind the dryer, metal pressing against his cheek as he kicked his feet, trying to propel himself further only to find the sleeve of his onesie caught on something.

“Kitty stole my binky and now I stuck!”

“Stuck? Okay, hold still, let me see what’s going on, you didn’t hurt yourself, did you?”

“No Daddy. My sleeve stuck.”

Daddy ran his fingers along Ryu’s arm, but he couldn’t get his much larger hand as far back behind the machine as Ryu had.

“Yeah, that’s not gonna work,” Daddy muttered, humming a little as he grabbed hold of the washer and pulled it toward them.

“Owie Daddy! OWIE!”

“Shit. Okay baby, hold still. That doesn’t seem like it’s going to work either,” Daddy said, but he stopped pulling, so the machine wasn’t digging into Ryu’s shoulder and arm. “We might have to go at this a different way.”

Pouting, Ryu gazed up to see Daddy’s worried eyes staring down at him. “That hurted Daddy.”

“I am so sorry, sweetheart. Daddy won’t do it again.”
