Kestrel (Starhawk Book 1) by Adrienne Lothy

Kestrel is the first book in an MM sci-fi trilogy by newbie author Adrienne Lothy. It's told entirely in Niko's POV, a retired galaxy bounty hunter, who gets called back into action in order to hunt down the elusive assassin The Kestrel. An assasin, whom has been murdering famous figures throughout the galaxy seemingly without a reason why.

From the blurb:

Book one of the Starhawk trilogy

Niko has only ever wanted to protect people.

Once a bounty hunter renowned for bringing in the most dangerous criminals the galaxy had to offer, Niko's life was forever altered after a job gone wrong left him with a devastating injury. Resigned to a languishing existence, he now believes his bounty hunting days are officially over. But when an elusive assassin known only as the Kestrel sets his aim on galactic leaders and celebrities, Niko is called back into the fight.

Caught in a deadly hunting game of cat and mouse, Niko soon discovers that nothing he's been told about the Kestrel is what it seems, exposing a web of lies as vast and entangled as the galaxy itself.

Niko is forced to make a choice: work alongside the only family he has left to stop the Kestrel from ever killing again, or save the life of the very assassin he's been sent to take down…

And Niko might just be falling in love with him.

Baby Author Alert! I took a chance on this one because I was totally in the mood for some space romance when I saw the ARC opportunity come up and I like to support newbie authors. There's a lot of potential here in this series and where it could go. Then again, I have no idea how the author is going to get these MCs out of the hole they have found themselves in by the end. But that's why I am the reader and they are the author. I just get to enjoy the ride, while they figure out the destination.

The one thing that kinda bummed me out was the single POV cuz honestly Elliot was super interesting and I wanted in his head more than Niko. I didn't realize it wasn't dual POV until I started reading it, which is something I usually check first. That does not mean I didn't enjoy it, just that I have a personal preference. AKA I am super nosey and wanted to know what was running through Eliot's mind during so many moments, especially the steamy bits.

The jury is still out on how I feel about Niko's brother Zann. I really hope for Niko's sake that his brother is on the up and up and really is a good person because if not, well things are about the get even worse for our couple in book 2. I can't imagine if the Galapol got their hands on either one of them at this point that they wouldn't be made to disappear rather quickly. There are still 2 books left in this trilogy and a horrendous political secret still hidden. Fingers crossed they all get what they deserve by the end!
