I was so excited when I saw that Secrets of the Soul was coming out! I love this magical world that this series is placed in, and how unique the characters are. Upon reading the first few chapters, I was immediately engrossed in the story. Holly's writing is so unique to her and is such a cool style that I can never put her books down once I start them. After the first few chapters and Kane and Kevin had mated so early on in the book, I was worried that the rest of the story would be a bit.. lack luster.. but I had nothing to worry about.
While the two MCs did complete their mating bond earlier on in the story, there was still so much to learn and discover. They each had pasts that they needed to share with each other, and they had to figure out how to make their new relationship work through all the chaos that was happening around them.
I thought that the mystery component was done terrifically well!! I was constantly guessing and was left clueless for most of the story, which is what you want when a book has a murder mystery aspect to it. You don't want to figure it out right away. You want to go on that journey with the characters and discover the clues alongside them. That's precisely what happened in this book. The writing itself was written really nicely, all the characters were fantastic. I adore the found family moments that took place in the story. I loved the nods and references to other MM authors. I thought that was so awesome!!
I really enjoy reading this series and discovering more magical creatures, and reading about the different types of magic that occur in this magical world this series is placed in. I really hope Carmichael gets his own story at some point. I'd really like to learn more about him.
All in all, another terrific addition to this fantastic series!!
