Get Frosted, Christmas Falls #3 by Amy Aislin - Review, Excerpt and Giveaway

Welcome back to Christmas Falls, in GET FROSTED we have a enemies to lovers small town holiday romance. Full of banter and heart, a sweet holiday read to get cozy with in the winter months.

From the blurb:

For years, Mik has wanted nothing more than to put coal in Rudy Snow's stocking.

As former pro hockey players, they’ve been rivals for years. It started in Mik’s rookie season, when a reporter pitted him against his older brother's best friend. Rudy pushes Mik’s buttons like no one else, going out of his way to one-up him at every turn.

Now they’re both pub owners in a small town that takes Christmas to a level best seen in Hallmark movies, but not much else has changed. They’re still rivals, this time pitting gingerbread martinis against pomegranate sangria.

But when they’re forced to work together to plan a special holiday party, sparks ignite. Maybe it's a bad idea to put coal in Rudy's stocking after all. They both might just catch fire.

Then again, what better way is there to stay warm on a cold winter's night?

Christmas Falls is a multi-author M/M romance series set in a small town that thrives on enough holiday charm to rival any Hallmark movie.

Molly Otto's Review:

It's definitely my favorite of this combined universe so far! Rudy and Mik banter is just so much fun that it has you smiling and rolling your eyes at them at the same time.

Two people are so alike that they can not help but annoy each other until they actually take the time to get to know the other and be real. It's just fun enemies to lovers in a small town, holiday romance.

Miki J's Review:

A very sweet and romantic story about finding your home… your own story… Mik is a sweetheart, but does have a bit of a rivalry with Rudy. It’s not really an enemies-to-lovers story… more frenemies with one who was totally clueless and the other finally (finally!!) making his move.

It’s actually quite funny when they have their “light-bulb” moments—you’ll go "finally" and awwwww at the same time.

Love small town stories and, as an added bonus, does have a Christmas setting (though I do question Mik’s decorations????), but this is more about Mik and Rudy finding themselves… and each other.

SNik's Review:

Part of a multi-author series (Christmas Falls) in a shared small town setting, but each can be read as a standalone story. Rivals to lovers. Brother’s best friend. Slow burn. Dual POV.

When Mik says “Get Frosted!” to Rudy, he doesn’t mean it in a nice way, the two of them having been competing in the NHL and in social media for years, not to mention managing rival pubs. Finally, Rudy has made his romantic interest known, but even though Mik is interested too, he isn’t sure if Rudy is staying in Christmas Falls. After all, Rudy had a very nomadic upbringing.

The series of interactions between Mik and Rudy that is adversarial but playful flirting lead to Rudy showing that his feelings and attention towards Mik are romantic and sweet. They eventually begin a relationship that has both men hoping but still having doubts about their personal futures as well as any possible future together.

Both Mik and Rudy are likable characters, there are some fun, supportive secondary characters, and all the holiday feels in a small town setting that embraces everything Christmas.

Angel's Review:

Get Frosted was full of so many great tropes! Older brother's best friend, enemies to friends to lovers.. it's so, so, good.

Growing up, Rudy never knew how to stay in one place. His parents and him were always moving, always traveling. He doesn't know how to stay in place, until Josh, Mik, and Mik and Josh's grandma, shows him how.

Mik has always lived in the shadow of his brother Josh, despite that, though the two men are extremely close. The downside to that is Mike having to deal with Rudy, his enemy. Or so he thought.

I thought this book was wonderful! Full of lovely quirky characters that all contributed their own personality to the story, the humor and playful ribbing that occurs between Rudy and Mik, the scenes where Rudy and Mik are coaching the kids.. this was jammed packed full of such lovely and tender moments. While there is plenty of humor, ahem the Swiffer situation, there's also a lot of love and a big community that takes care of one another. I've read three books now from the Christmas Falls series and I can say, hands down, this is the best series to get you craving holiday festivities.

Heather's Review:

I had so much fun reading Get Frosted!  Rivals to lovers, best friends's brother, long time crush... so many great tropes collide in Christmas Falls and I absolutely adored Mik and Rudy.  I love Rudy's nickname for Mik, how hard he tries to get noticed and how much angst his decision costs him...

I love that Mik is unapologetically Mik - kind hearted, but striving to not just be the younger brother doing the same things...

Both men are sweet, sincere and still showing a bit of the rivalry... the HEA was definitely sweet too!

Sheena's Review:

This is part of a multi-author series but I read it as a standalone, and enjoyed it as such.  This is a new to me author and I picked it up as it looked festive and fun and like a hallmark movie in a book.  It was exactly that and just what a christmas book should be.

Set in a fictional town where everything is Christmas, this is a brother's best friend, enemies to lovers story with medium heat.  I really enjoyed getting to know Rudy and Mik and spending time with them in Christmas Falls.  I liked the rivalry they had going, a holdover from their days playing hockey.  The two guys trying to outdo each other with their decorations was great fun, and the chemistry between them is intense too.

I liked the whole story, it's low angst and just a great Christmas read.  The supporting cast of family is wonderful too, especially Mik's epic grandma.  There's a really sweet HEA too.

Excerpt

“You certainly know how to make a splash,” said a dry voice at his elbow, shaking him out of his irritation.

And setting into motion a new kind of annoyance that fizzled in Mik’s blood. “No one asked you,” he said to his brother’s best friend.

Rudy Snow raised one dark eyebrow, because of course he could do that. When Mik tried, he ended up with both eyebrows at his hairline.

“It’s certainly . . .” Rudy cast his gaze around, taking everything in. “Unique.”

“It’s majestic.”

“It looks like the Island of Misfit Toys. All you’re missing is a Charlie-in-the-Box.”

Crossing his arms over his chest, Mik clenched his teeth. “You’re not allowed to judge. You don’t even have a wreath on your front door.”

Rudy made a sound in the back of his throat, a rumbly laugh that made the back of Mik’s neck itch. “Do you often happen to find yourself outside my house, Miki?”

Mik’s stupid feelings went all gooey at the nickname. Or maybe that was just hunger. “It’s on my way to work.”

“Sure. If you take the long way.”

God. Why did he have to be so annoying?

And hot.

And annoyingly hot. All dark-haired and dark-eyed and scruffy-jawed, with a natural tan to his skin that perpetually made him look like he’d just come from the beach. He stood a couple of inches taller than Mik’s five feet eleven. At a year older than Mik’s thirty-one, Rudy was as fit now as he’d been when he’d played in the NHL, even two and a half years post-retirement.

Mik had considered himself lucky to be drafted to his brother’s team’s rival. With Mik playing for Washington and Josh playing for Pittsburgh, it had given Mik the chance to step out of his brother’s shadow and assert himself as his own person. And playing up the rivalry between their teams had been all sorts of fun at family get-togethers.

The problem Mik hadn’t anticipated had been twofold.

First, because Josh’s rookie year had been the gold fucking star of rookie years, Mik had been instantly compared to him when he’d been drafted a year later, forevermore casting him in the role of Josh Gilmore’s little brother.

Second, there was Pittsburgh defenseman Rudy Snow. And Pittsburgh defenseman Rudy Snow wasn’t shy about checking his teammate’s little brother into the boards during Mik’s first Washington versus Pittsburgh game.

“It’s no secret in the league that your brother and his teammate Rudy Snow are good friends,” a reporter had said to Mik during the post-game interview after that game. “What do you have to say to your brother’s best friend after that check in the second period?”

Um, nothing?

He’d barely known Rudy. Plus, checking was what hockey players did.

While both those things were true, that hadn’t been what the reporter wanted to hear. So Mik had smirked and said, “That he better watch out. He won’t get the jump on me again. In fact, next time, I’m going to swipe the puck out from under him and score. Just wait and see.”

Mik had later learned that Rudy had responded to that with a pithy, “He can try.”

And that was it. Instant rivalry.
