Resurrection Reprise: A Soulbound Universe Novel by Hailey Turner

Resurrection Reprise is a return to Hailey Turner's Soulbound Universe with everyone's favorite mage that has an affinity for dealing with the dead and the vampire that wants to claim him. Spencer is in Seattle on a case and dealing with master vampire Takoma is unavoidable both personally and professionally. Investigating a witch coven while dodging supernatural politics brings all kinds of danger, but Spencer is up to the task.

From the blurb:

Possession is nine-tenths of the law.

Spencer Bailey has spent his entire life under government oversight for something he can’t change: his magic’s affinity for breaking souls. After surviving the end of the world, Spencer joins the Supernatural Operations Agency with the intention of keeping his head down and his hands clean.

Tasked with tracking down a stolen artifact, Spencer wants to run his first case with the SOA by the book. The master vampire of the Seattle Night Court won’t make that easy. Takoma is demanding and possessive, used to getting what he wants, and he lures Spencer into his Night Court with the seductive promise of freedom.

In the Pacific Northwest, ghosts are crawling out of the woodwork, demons are on the rise, and Spencer can’t afford to make a mistake. Torn between the life he should lead and the one Takoma is offering, Spencer has to make a choice that won’t break his soul, but it might just shatter his heart.

Resurrection Reprise is an exciting new standalone novel set in Hailey Turner's best-selling Soulbound Universe.

SNik's Review:

Standalone but set in the author’s Soulbound Universe, so it might be more fun if read after that series. Paranormal. Dual POV. Be aware that there is violent content.

The government has use for a soulbreaker, and that's the only reason Spencer is allowed to practice his magic legally in the US. When he’s on the hunt for a missing artifact that allows demon possession, his case takes him to Seattle, where he has no way of avoiding the master vampire of the territory.

Spencer finds himself working with Takoma and his night court while investigating a witch coven, trying to avoid upsetting the local shifter God pack, and navigating the supernatural politics of his government job while being undercover in the supernatural community.

Ever since they fought together in New York, Takoma has been slightly obsessed with Spencer and he has no intentions of letting him go, wanting to pursue a relationship. There is no doubt that Spencer is attracted to Takoma, and Spencer feels seen and wanted by Takoma, not just coveted for his powers.

Plenty of action, steamy interactions, and some fun cameos. This book delivers on the entertainment. Would I be thrilled to read more with Spencer and Takoma? - yes, please.

Alyssa P's Review:

I loved this spin off from Hailey Turner’s Soulbound Universe series. This novel focuses on Spencer Bailey; it was so much fun getting into his headspace, and it was fascinating learning about his powers and capabilities.

Hailey Turner did a great job embodying Spencer and his love interest, Tacoma, a master vampire for the Seattle Nightcourt. I enjoyed the relationship between Tacoma and Spencer, even though Tacoma was a bit too possessive and their relationship felt a bit too physical and steamy at times. I loved the case Spencer was attempting to figure out!

Hailey Turner’s world building is always fantastic! I’m so glad the Soulbound Universe series got a spin off. It’s exactly what I needed!
