Rapture by E.M. Lindsey

When Poe got attacked he never expected to be saved by someone.. let alone falling for the person who saved him.

From the blurb for Rapture:

It starts with a mugging, and ends with me being saved by the love of my life.

In short, my uncle died and left me everything—which is to say a barely surviving pub with no staff and thousands of dollars’ worth of repairs I can’t afford. It also seemed to come with some strange men, dressed in black, who won’t tell me what they’re looking for—or why they seem so interested in who I am.

But when the tall stranger who walked with a cane and talked with an accent literally saved my life, things got a bit more…interesting.

And a lot more complicated.

I’ve lived in the city long enough to know some secrets are best left buried, but the longer Alonso is around, the harder I fall for those dark eyes and jagged scars. I want to believe that the past is the past, but is there a future with a man who won’t let me in? And if he does open up, will I be able to accept who he was, and everything he’s done?

Rapture is a stand-alone, age-gap, friends to lovers romance featuring dark pasts, bright futures, an alley cat who thinks it's a ghost, sleepovers, possessive lovers, praise, hurt/comfort, and a sweet, steamy happily ever after.

Angel's Review:

Oh my gosh.. I have been hoping Alonso would get his own story, I wanted him to get his mostly happy after with someone who genuinely loved and cared about him. I'm so happy we got his story and this book just made me want Leo's and Rhys's even more, hopefully they'll get their own book at some point. I'm also really eager for Dominic and Lorenzo's book, I'm so, so excited. I could practically feel the relationship building between them near the end of this book. But that's the side characters that I fell in love with! Not to mention the main characters, cause let me tell you I fell for them, and you will too!

I didn't know what to expect with this story, I was looking forward to it but was also apprehensive hoping it would be great and not feel less than EM's other books. And i had no reason to be apprehensive! This book was so great and while it was on the darker side it was written amazingly.

The writing pulls you in to the lives of these characters and the characters personalities makes you connect to them, makes you feel like you can relate. And that letter Poe's Uncle write him about how he hopes Poe doesn't keep waiting around for them to change, really got me. I can relate to that so much, cause I'm sure I'm not the only one with 'family' members that act like they can treat you poorly just because you're related to them by blood. That doesn't make anyone family, and this book depicted that message beautifully.

Poe and Alonso were so great together, even when Alonso made Poe angry. And Poe was rightfully angry, but he also knew Alonso was doing what he did because he cared so much about Poe's wellbeing. The part where they took in that kitten? And then called the kitten Ghost? So cute! It added a really adorable element to this story that I really appreciated. I loved all of the characters we got introduced to, and reintroduced to others we have previously 'met' in other books. I can't wait to see more of these characters in  this world EM has created. I have no idea how EM can come up with not only so many incredible characters, but also so many worlds that are always so fantastic and the writing is always stupendous! I highly recommend you to get this story, right now!
