Peacemaker, Sharps & Springfield #1 by Morgan Brice

A new set of investigators to root for in Peacemaker, the start of a new series from Morgan Brice. Supernatural agents in a historical setting of the old west where there are railroad barons, fights for land, and underneath it all a community hidden from most humans that includes vampires, werewolves, ghosts and demons.

From the blurb:

Secret agents, forbidden love, danger, and magic!

Supernatural Secret Service agents Owen Sharps and Calvin Springfield meet on the train to their new assignment in St. Louis, and sparks fly between them. But it's 1897, and they need to be very careful—falling in love can be dangerous for men like them.

It's their first case together, investigating mysterious disappearances—including the two agents who preceded them. Grim evidence leads them to look for a darker purpose. Old ghosts haunt the railroad line, zombie rise, signs point to ritual sacrifice, and they suspect someone is trying to open the gates of hell.

Can Calvin and Owen stop the mayhem, thwart the vampires, and find true love, or will everything go up in smoke?

Peacemaker is a high-stakes steampunk MM romance thrill ride filled with found family, paranormal Pinkertons, intrepid reporters, mysterious disappearances, nefarious land brokers, hellhounds, zombies, vengeful spirits, dark spells, absinthe magic, a ruthless vampire railroad baron and a love that won't be denied.

Before Colt and Winchester, there was Sharps & Springfield!

Peacemaker is the first book in the new Sharps & Springfield series.

SNik's Review:

First in series (Sharps & Springfield). Paranormal historical. Slow burn. Dual POV.

Calvin and Owen are newly paired paranormal agents investigating a series of murders and the disappearance of a couple of fellow agents in St. Louis. Both men have plenty of work and combat experience and their individual personal histories of having to hide their preference for male lovers, so much so they can’t trust each other right away with the truth.

There is plenty of pining on both sides while the men conduct their investigation, wondering if the other has the same feelings.

A lot of interesting world building and introduction to some capable secondary characters in the fight against supernatural beings and humans alike.

I do wish Calvin and Owen spent more time together getting to know each other, as they spent a lot of time investigating separately.

As the series continues I look forward to learning more about Calvin and Owen as they build a relationship, with the same type of action and adventure.
