Stone Skin, The Gargoyles of Arrington #2 by Jenn Burke

Time is ticking but you cant rush true love. Can Professor Logan Davis werewolf shifter help Rian break his family's curse? Looking for way besides true love, Rian finds himself falling for Logan even though he isn't willing to rush Logan when the man has lost so many loved ones already and Rian's time is running out. Stone Skin is the second book in The Gargoyles of Arrington series.

From the blurb:

Can he break his curse before time runs out?

Despite being cursed to sleep as a gargoyle for a hundred years, and awake for only twenty-five, Rian O'Reilly is an optimist. He knows he can find a way to break the curse through the tattooed runes he's spent years mastering. No need to wait for this true love crap. But he hasn't found the right combination of magic and his time is almost up. Rian isn't ready to lose everyone and everything. Again.

Professor Logan Davis knows about loss. In the past year, he’s lost his mother, his twin, his werewolf pack, and he’s on the verge of losing his mind. So when he’s invited to Arrington to learn about a legend he’s never heard of, he jumps at the chance for a working vacation. He doesn’t expect to find a handsome gargoyle who needs his help to break a centuries-old curse—and he certainly doesn’t expect his grief to finally overwhelm him.

As Rian comforts Logan, he starts to wonder if there might be something to this true love crap after all. He'd give anything to help this gentle giant of a man, but Logan needs time to heal...and time is the one thing Rian doesn't have.

STONE SKIN is a male/male paranormal romance featuring a magical tattoo artist gargoyle who doesn’t want to go, a werewolf professor who needs time to rediscover himself beneath his grief, and a budding love that might be the answer to everything…if only it has time to bloom.

SNik's Review:

Second in series (The Gargoyles of Arrington), best if read in order. Paranormal urban fantasy. Hurt/comfort. Found family. Slow burn. Dual POV.

Cursed as a gargoyle, tattoo artist Rian has been working to find a way to break the curse besides finding true love. Rian is hoping Professor Logan Davis can help him research the old legends, and Logan is willing but he is struggling through his overwhelming grief from losing his werewolf family and pack.

Friendship builds between Rian and Logan, kindness, caring, and supportive conversations, both men are likable and develop feelings beyond initial physical attraction. The slow growth of their romantic relationship with the pending limited time together is bittersweet and emotional, all of Rian and Logan’s interactions were sweet.

Really enjoyed the expanding found family, the large cast of secondary characters were fun and supportive and help the brothers become not as isolated and lonely. Logan overcoming his fear of losing another important person he loves and Rian’s commitment to letting Logan build his feelings in his own time even though he may lose him is a true romance.

Enjoyed this immensely and can’t wait for the next in the series.
