This story is sweet, sexy and a fantastic spinoff to the Sweetwater Pack. January Blues can be read as a standalone. If you’re looking for an escape to a well-developed world with a touch of magic and clever world building, this is the book for you.
From the blurb:
While practically human in a coven of powerful witches, Cody has still picked up an enemy. After an assassination attempt fails spectacularly, his rival summons a demon to get rid of him.
Contracted to ruin Cody's life, Toth tries everything within the rules to break the perpetually cheerful man. Nothing he does seems to work, and he is pressed to try something else: seduce Cody.
Cody's hidden magic soon has Toth under his spell and he has to decide if his freedom or Cody's heart are more important.
January Blues is a 34k spinoff novella from the Sweetwater Pack series but can be read as a standalone. While MPREG can happen in this world, it doesn't in this story.
Holly Oliver's Review:
I’m so thrilled I was able to grab an advanced copy. Cody is a struggling witch (or is he?), abandoned by his own family. Cody has worked through his emotional baggage (for the most part) and continues to be both unflappable and a ray of sunshine. After an assassination attempt, he manages to secure a new best friend in Damon, who is a quintessential fantastic secondary character and shows Cody unwavering love and care.
As Cody strives and is succeeding to gain a promotion at work – Enter Toth, who has been tasked to throw the ray of sunshine into chaos and throw him off balance. What happens next will change their lives forever.
Toth, the lusty and disgruntled demon, gets summoned by his ‘master’ for yet another ridiculous human job. He brings along his hellcat Hela (who, honestly steals the show IMHO). Toth tries and fails to send Cody into a tailspin, using his best demon tricks, when that fails, the next obvious solution is to try to seduce him, in his human form as Quill, Mr. Tall Dark and Handsome, this is no hardship for either man.
This is where the story really gets interesting and for the sake of not giving away any spoilers, I will say, this is a sweet, sexy and super fun story, Jax Stuart has created an awesome world, I love her depiction of the realm known as “hell” and she has delivered such a fresh approach to magic, deities, and found family. Her secondary characters are strong, and her world building paints an incredible picture. I highly recommend this story, and will definitely be reading it again.

Laora's Review:
I was not sure what to expect since I don't think I have read any books by the author. But Holy Hellcat was I pleasantly surprised. The pacing, story development and world building were spot on for me. Toth being reluctant whilst being held under contract, Cody being his sweet self and discovering so much more about who he truly is and fully embracing that side.
Toth and Cody have some steamy scenes once they find out what they are to the other and find their hfn/ hea.
All the fantastical side characters in this book I can't wait to learn more about in hopefully, more books. And at the end I concluded I need to go and at the Sweetwater books to my tbr.😁.

Jacqueleen the Reading Queen's Review:
We've all had a case of the January Blues, am I right? The magical time of the holiday season is over and now all those credit card bills come due. Not to mention the few extra pounds that seem to linger from all those Christmas cookies. Or maybe that's just me? Well, poor, basically magicless witch Cody is having a tougher time than most during this particular January. His entire family has up and left him to parts unknown. Someone also recently hired a hitman to kill him. Although, that particular event could be seen as a positive. You'll get it once you read the book. Or likely it could just be that someone has summoned a demon to make his life utterly miserable. Yeah, that's most likely it.
Toth aka the demon summoned to fuck with Cody HATES being called to the human realm. He's quite happy living his demon life in his own dimension with his farm and hell cat. I immediately took to him. He's funny and sarcastic. He's also got a few morals I admired, though he's still a demon, so don't be expecting a saint. Though he tries his hardest to get Cody down, it continually backfires, which leads him to option 2: Seduction. I bet he never thought his plan would lead him to the love of his life.
I really enjoyed this novella. It was a lot of fun and also introduced us to some new characters *cough Damon cough* that I would LOVE to see in a future book. This novella is a spinoff from the Sweetwater Pack series, but don't fret if you haven't read them yet, (WHY HAVEN'T YOU READ THEM YET!!?) because January Blues can most definitely standalone. I do think it may up your enjoyment a tad more since there are a few small cameos, but nothing that would cause confusion.

Heather's Review:
I love Jax as a contemporary writer, but I haven't read the Sweetwater Pack series because I don't read MPreg, but when she said Demons and Witches, I knew I was IN for January Blues and she didn't disappoint!
I absolutely loved the book from beginning snark to the sweet romantic end... this is not just a love story, but it's also a story of playing fast and loose with the demonic contract that you really don't want to be exercising AND finding out long buried secrets about the witch you've been stalking... this book had me engrossed from the start and it was well paced, fun, funny and sweet! It was the perfect way to avoid chores for an afternoon! I hope Jax continues to explore these fun characters, especially Damon!

Sheena's Review:
This was my first book from this author. As I understand it, this is a novella set in an existing universe, which I haven't read because I don't read MPreg. I think I got enough enjoyment out of it reading as a standalone though.
This is Cody and Toth's story. Cody is a witch with only a very little magic - abandoned by his blood family because of that, he's on his own, other than a few friends at his coven. Toth is a demon, bound to a witch that he hates, and has to do his bidding, which he also hates. The summoning was fun, the snark between Toth and his summoner was great. I loved how unwilling Toth was, I could see how much he didn't want to do what he was contractually obliged to. Cody was such a ray of sunshine, I loved how he turned all the things he was supposed to be inconvenienced by into a positive by the end of the day.
I loved the Cody 'reveal' too, and his interactions with Toth. Yes it was quick but with fated mates that's usually the case and these two really worked well together. It's a fun story and if there are more in this series then I'd be happy to read more.
