Beautiful Hearts by Jax Calder

The title of this book. Beautiful Hearts, is perfect because Tim and Jamie were in possession of the most beautiful and kind hearts I've read in a long time.

From the blurb:

Tim:

I lost my husband three years ago. Since then I’ve survived by focusing on raising my daughter.

Until I meet Jamie.

He’s wrong for me for so many reasons.

Too young. Too charming. Too beautiful.

But he works at the school I teach at, and I can’t escape him even if I wanted to.

As much as I try to resist, our connection is undeniable. Which leaves me wondering - is it possible to find your soul mate twice?

Jamie:

A relationship in my past has left me with massive scars, but this thing with Tim is so different to anything I’ve had before.

We laugh together. We connect on a billion and one levels. And he’s the kindest man I’ve ever met.

But he was never part of my plan. It was my plan to travel at the end of the year, not to fall for an older man, one who is settled and has a daughter.

But I can’t help myself. And honestly? I couldn’t be happier.

Until a secret from the past threatens to destroy everything.

Jacqueleen the Reading Queen's Review:

The majority of Beautiful Hearts is just an utterly romantic and wonderful story about two men falling head over heels in love.

I mean, this read was so lovely and organic. I had hearts in my eyes and a smile on my face. Then I realized this was the author's way of lulling readers into a false sense of security and it worked like a charm because I did NOT in a million years see the climax coming. I literally cupped a hand over my mouth and gasped, which quickly led to actual tears. Which, by the way, is almost always an auto 5 star from me. If you can elicit that type of emotion from your writing, you deserve 5 stars all the way.

Thankfully, by the end my heart was mended, but holy shit, for a minute there I swore my heart actually stopped.

Sheena's Review:

Honestly, I have so many feelings about this book. It's wonderful, and sad, and happy and uplifting, yet twists your heart all at the same time. It's the story of Tim, a widower who lost his husband and is starting to rebuild his life and consider dating again. It's also the story of Jamie, who's also still feeling the loss of his father and rebuilding his own life after going off the rails and making some bad decisions.

These two lost souls find each other, and these two meeting, getting to know each other is such a lovely slow burn story. I'm there for their friendship and all the messages and time they spend getting to know each other. The chemistry is there though. It's such a slow build until that slow fuse eventually reaches the touch-paper and you're blown away by the heat of these two. It's such an intense fire and I'm there with it. I was happily reading along, loving how relatively low angst this story was, it was a story of grief and coming to terms with moving on, and looking to the future, which was so bright for them both. Then BAM! That twist I did NOT see coming. I couldn't stop, and had to carry on and find out how it all turned out for Tim and Jamie. Jax Calder didn't so much as pull the rug out from under me, that rug was yanked away and burned for good measure.

I loved this book so much. It had everything I wanted and didn't even know. I loved this so much.

Heather's Review:

Wow!  Beautiful Hearts was a true roller coaster of emotions... sweet, sad, happy, beautiful, gut-wrenching and bone deep pain, healing and satisfying.. and the climax you just don't see coming that hits you like a freight train..

I absolutely love how these two broken souls find each other and connect - it's an almost instant attraction that they both resist until they can't... Jax Calder always creates characters with depth, but this time... chef's kiss.... absolutely stunning... The pacing, the climax, the sweet daughter, this  book makes you want to re-read it the minute you finish to make sure you've actually read what you've read.  This book sucked me in and I read it in one sitting!
