Naiad's Kiss (A Naiad Romance #4) by Gigi Rivers

Our reviewer, Jacquie, loves the Naiad Romance series and convinced Janet to pick up Naiad's Kiss.

From the blurb:

An MM fantasy romance with friends to lovers, pirates, nymphs, hurt/comfort, found families, and lots of pining.

Levrith is a pirate on the Naiad’s Revenge. He loves the sea, adventure, and the life of a sailor. He also loves his naiad crewmate, Ceto. They’ve been friends for years, and through all that time, Levrith has longed for more. Unfortunately, Ceto only has eyes for one human, the captain of their ship.

Ceto was rescued from captivity by the captain. Since then, he has always tried to prove himself to the man, hoping that one day he would return Ceto’s feelings. But the captain rejects Ceto, and soon afterward, Ceto is wounded in battle. Heartbroken and injured, Ceto leaves the ship to recover.

In Ceto’s darkest hour, it is Levrith who accompanies him off the ship and brings Ceto to Levrith’s island home. There Levrith nurses and cares for him when all Ceto wants is to wallow. As Ceto heals, desires grow, and passions ignite. But is there something more than friendship between them? And will Ceto see what is right in front of him before it is too late?

NAIAD'S KISS is the fourth novel of the A NAIAD ROMANCE series. Each book contains a HEA with no cliffhangers and can be read as a stand alone.

Content notes: sexual content, swearing, captivity and abuse of nymphs, and violence.

Janet's Review:

Naiad's Kiss is my first time reading anything by this author. I’ll definitely be looking for more by them.

This was seriously good!! Levrith is in love with Ceto, but Ceto is in love with the ship’s captain, Silas, but, he’s in love with someone else. Levrith and Ceta are friends and when Ceto is injured, Levrith takes him home to recuperate.

Sweet with lots of steam when they finally get together.

Overall, a fantastic read. Well written with pacing that sucked me in.

Jacquie's Review:

Honestly, this series is just sooo good. Sweet, low angst and with plenty of steam.

A Naiads Kiss is a slower burn friends to lovers story with a cute bat. I loved that addition and all of Levrith's family, especially his mom and grandmother.

It was lovely for Ceto to get his HEA with someone so lovely for him. Best friends to lovers is a great trope. There is also some demisexual representation here, though the term isn't used, I felt like that's what Levrith would identify as.

Each of these standalone, however, there is an overarching plot that you miss out on somewhat with reading just one. They are all so good and are shorter books.

This one felt like it could be the end of the series but then I felt like a certain Dr. was teased as the next mc - yes please

Angel's Review:

Levrith and Ceto's story was full of lots of pining and miscommunication. This story picked up where the first book left off, right after they fought the Order on the island. We get to look through Ceto's eyes and get to know how he felt when he kissed his Captain, how long he spent having feelings for him. I liked being able to get more of Ceto's backstory, I really enjoyed getting to know more about his character.

I adored Levrith's character. He was so sweet and caring to those around him, but especially to Ceto. Even when Ceto treated him poorly, Levrith still stuck by his side. Even though Levrith has been fighting his feelings for his best friend for years.

When Ceto gets injured, and Levrith offers to help him with healing and his recovery, it forces them to spend more one-on-one time together. Which makes Levrith's feeling go stronger and gives Ceto time to think about how maybe he wasn't really in love with the Captain after all.

I liked this story. I enjoyed how this one wasn't as full of fight scenes as the first book was. It was nice getting to read about the day-to-day life of these characters when they aren't on a pirate ship. It's really cool. I adored Levrith's mom and grandma. They took Ceto under their wings and made sure he felt welcome. I loved Chirp!! I wasn't expecting that a description of a fruit bat could sound adorable, but Gigi proved me wrong.

Overall, a decent story. I'm going to go read the next book now. I need to know whose story is next.
