Wild (Wild #1) - Adrienne Wilder

Beyond intense story where there is only absolute determination will keep the characters alive while they form fierce attachment to each other. Plane crash survivor August becomes Keegan's sole focus as the elements and wild animals of Alaska are ever present dangers for two men that find they only want to survive if they are together.

From the blurb:

August Vallory had it all. A modeling career, a man he loved, and the extended family he’d acquired in
the business. Then the world he knew was torn away when the plane he was on crashed en route to a photo shoot.

Lost in the Alaskan wilderness, August doesn’t stand a chance.

No sane man would choose to live in the Alaskan bush unless he had something to hide. And Keegan Brooks has secrets darker than night, more dangerous than wolves, more brutal than an Alaskan winter.
Every day was a fight for his life until he stumbled upon a downed plane with a lone survivor. Now it’s no longer just Keegan’s life teetering on the edge of survival.

SNik's Review:

Standalone (but there is a short novella that takes place after, so this is #1 in Wild series). Hurt/comfort. Forced proximity.

Gritty and tense story about survival, and how the will to live and the strength of self sacrifice can combine to create powerful feelings. Keegan is desperate to protect August and keep him alive, this may be his redemption, a way to relieve the guilt of his past, and caring for August becomes his obsession as well as the object of his lust.

When August finally realizes his life is held in Keegan’s hands, and seeing that everything Keegan does is in order to keep August alive, he slowly forms an attachment to Keegan that grows from fear of being left alone to survive to seeing that Keegan’s unwavering commitment to keeping August safe creates feelings of affection and love.

Wilder is an emotionally descriptive writer, and this book had me anxious and stressed and captivated with the constant fear and dread of the next obstacle to August and Keegan’s survival as well as their steamy and sweet interactions.

A story where two men cling to each other and build a codependency that progresses to an inexorable love.
