Leading Man: Hollywood Heartthrobs Book 1 - Valerie Ullmer

A 3 year working relationship turns to more when an actor and his personal assistant finally confess their feelings. Leading Man is the first in a new series from Valerie Ullmer.

From the blurb:

Spencer Atreus.

Gorgeous movie star, workaholic, and the ultimate laid back, can’t-help-but-love-him kind of guy.

Oh, did I mention gorgeous?

But the reason I, Westley Lee, hid my attraction to the man was two-fold.

I loved my job. As his personal assistant, he depended on me and I’d come to crave being wanted by him, even though it wasn’t exactly as I imagined. Also, being part of his life, even in the peripheral, was better than not being with him at all. And while it screamed desperation on my part, every intimate thought I had about him was locked in the recesses of my mind as I kept up appearances.

Until one night changed everything.

Seeing Spencer in pain crumbled all the walls I’d built between us to protect my heart. And in a moment of pure weakness, he saw through my barriers and I was unable to keep him in the dark about my feelings.

But will we find our happily ever after when a threat endangers our entire future?

SNik's Review:

First in series (Hollywood Heartthrobs). Boss/employee. Friends to lovers. POC representation. Quick read. Dual POV.

Having feelings for his famous actor boss is something Lee has hidden for the last 3 years he has worked as Spencer’s personal assistant, but when Spencer is injured both men’s feelings come to light.

This story goes from zero to a hundred since Lee and Spencer already have a friendly boss/employee relationship, the steam happens quickly to change the relationship to romantic.

There is quite a bit covered in this story and could possibly have been longer (3 years together could have lent more to the story with more in depth into their shared past) and still maintained its pace, plus there are huge amounts of dialogue happening to explain the characters thoughts and motivations sometimes even amidst their steamy interactions.

However, both Lee and Spencer are likable characters that honestly communicate and share feelings and the reader can root for them as a couple.

Rating: 3.5 Stars
