It Will Come Back (Stay Grounded, #1) by B.H. Lynn

Janet loved getting to know Alex and Trevor in It Will Come Back. Saying that they were the perfect grumpy/sunshine!

From the blurb:

Trevor:

At thirty-eight years old, you’d think I’d know what I want in life. Prior to being shot, I’d tell you I did. Sure, the picture didn’t include a spouse, or even my own family, but it did include my dream job of

Detective in the Orlando Police Department, and enough intimacy to keep me going.

That bullet tore through more than my shoulder that day. It sent me down a romantic path that’s turned into a freefall.

My newfound desire for someone to come home to has put dents in my already damaged heart that make me crave the way things used to be. The occasional fling, and days filled with fixing everyone else’s problems in this city but my own.

But even that plan falters when I enter the Stay Grounded coffee shop and meet Irish-born owner Alex O’Reilly. Our conversation goes down as smoothly as the coffee, and I find myself crave the very thing I swore I was done with. After a strange break-in at Stay Grounded stops us in our tracks I’m faced with how far under I’ve fallen, and how good it felt to come up for a fresh breath of air with someone as unique as Alex.

And that, is just as terrifying as the escalation this criminal seems hell-bent on.

Keeping Alex and his business safe is my job.

Keeping his heart safe? That’s not something I’m sure I’m fit for anymore.

Janet's Review:

BH Lynn is a new to me author. I really enjoyed the story and getting to know Trevor and Alex.

The beginning of the story with Trevor’s pain felt realistic. Meeting Alex was like waking up from a dream for him.

They were the perfect grumpy/sunshine! There’s a great mystery involved within the storyline.

The only thing I didn’t like was I felt Trevor was too wishy washy. Thankfully he had a fantastic work partner to wake him up!

Great secondary characters. Overall, loved it. I felt it was well written with nice pacing! Definitely recommend.

SNik's Review:

It Will Come Back is the first in series (Stay Grounded). Quick read. Hurt/comfort. Single POV.

Police detective Trevor has been struggling with his recovery from a gunshot and recently failed relationships, the only thing he seems to be able to do well is his job.

When he meets coffee house owner Alex, Trevor is thrown by the instant connection, and although he is willing to have a one time hookup, Trevor isn’t willing to try for something more.

There is a lot packed into this novella, with incredibly descriptive and heartfelt writing, as it is single POV the introspection Trevor does is the driving force of the story. There is an overlap of Trevor’s personal and professional life when it comes to Alex, and both men feel strongly drawn to the other beyond just initial attraction.

Solid secondary character in Trevor’s work partner, some background for both men to give context to their motivations, and some steamy interactions make for an entertaining read. Looking forward to more books that are planned for the couple as the series continues.

Lori C's Review:

Trevor, our main character, is an Orlando police officer who has been abandoned by his family for being gay. He’s been shot in the line of duty and now dumped by his most recent boyfriend for trying to do his job well. Alex is the owner of Stay Grounded, a local coffee shop. They meet by accident one night and one thing leads to another. Unfortunately, they’re interrupted by an alarm in Alex’s shop. With a string of burglaries in the area and an additional threat at Alex’s shop, will Trevor and his partner be able to figure everything out before something happens to Alex?

I think this was a very well thought out story and was emotionally deep as well in some respects. I thought the mystery side of the story kept pace with the romance side and everything ticked along really well. Some of my favorite parts were the dialogue between Trev and Alex, so sexy in one moment and so heartfelt in the next. As this was my first book by B.H. Lynn, I’m wondering if this will be a long series as some mysteries are prone to be or something shorter. Time will tell and I’ll be along for the ride. 😊

Lesetiger's Review:

I did not know the author B.H. Lynn before. I really liked both the pleasant writing style and the love story combined with a mystery.

At the beginning you get to know Trevor and you can feel his pain, which was described very authentically, directly - I was already in the middle of the story. I really liked Trevor from the beginning. He is a police officer with passion, who has a sympathetic partner, but no luck with his own family. A light on the horizon appears in the form of Alex, the owner of a cafe and a real ray of sunshine.

The two were genuinely sweet together, even if the deeply wounded Alex sometimes reacts unexpectedly. The story captivates with sympathetic secondary characters and also the crime plot was well done and suspense is guaranteed. Towards the end there is a lot going on.

I am already looking forward to the next volume of the series.

Reedkaye's Review:

This is the first story I’ve read by this author. It centers on two guys, one a police detective and the other a business owner. Trevor the Police detective, has a complete negative opinion of his ability to have a relationship. After being given dead status with his family for being gay and breaking up with his latest he is depressed. While thinking of doing the bar scene he finds it isn’t what he is looking for and stops at this new little shop he has been past before. There he meets Alex the owner.

Both guys have this attraction to each other but things don’t work out as planned when Alex is faced with dealing with a break in to his shop.

I love Julie, Trevor’s partner. She plays a big part in the story. This ends on a hfn and I’m anxious to see what is next.

It Will Come Back is available in paperback and ebook.
