Reigniting Chase by Jeanne St. James

Fantastic, Outstanding, Phenomenal!! Reigniting Chase mesmerized me and sucked me in. Wonderful second chance at love. - Janet
"He left me. He left me alone. He left me broken. He left me not wanting to ever have anyone else."

From the blurb:

An unexpected collaboration between two authors that’s hot enough to spark a fire...

Chase

After an excruciating loss, I’m desperate for a fresh start.
Away from the painful memories.
Away from everyone I know and anyone who knows my story.
That’s how I end up in Eagle’s Landing, Pennsylvania.
As a bestselling author, my main reason for moving to a remote mountain cabin is to overcome the writer’s block that crushed my creativity for the past two years. My hope is to rediscover my words in the quiet, small town where no one knows me. Or my past.
A place where I can blend in enough that I become invisible.

Rett

Even though Chase, one of my favorite authors, insists he wants to be left alone, I refuse to let him wallow in whatever’s drowning him.
As a local bookstore owner and author myself, I’m intrigued by the man who’s a master of the written word. Unfortunately, his social skills could use a lot of work.
Even so, I’m determined to pull the irritable and frustrating man out of the dark pit he’s fallen into and back to the surface, no matter how hard he fights it. I only hope dragging Chase down that fiery path just might reignite his spark and that I don’t get burned in the process.

Note: Please check the content warning before reading or purchasing. It can be found at the beginning of the book (accessible by Amazon’s “look inside” feature or by downloading the sample) as well as on my website. This standalone gay romance has a guaranteed HEA, no cheating and no cliffhanger.

Janet's Review:

Reigniting Chase was a truly phenomenal read! This story mesmerized me and sucked me in. Reigniting Chase was well written with excellent pacing.

Chase is the grumpy to Rett’s sunshine. Chase is broken and for an excellent reason. He sells everything and buys a run down, ramshackle cabin in the middle of nowhere. He’s desperate to start over and get away from his previous life.

Rett owns the bookstore in the small town that Chase has moved to. Rett decides they’re going to be friends, and nothing stops him from that. Chase’s loss was heartbreaking. Rett’s friendship and eventual love was unconditional.

Fantastic connection and chemistry. Chase is deeply complex and with a complicated mindset. Rett is just what Chase needs.

Excellent secondary characters. The character building is wonderful and complex, feels realistic. Highly recommend.

Jacqueleen the Reading Queen's Review:

Oh Chase. You broke my heart hunny. I cannot imagine the pain he must have endured after what he'd gone through. Then, when he didn't heal from that trauma in what others considered a respectable time frame, he had to deal with comments from the people who were supposed to support him in his life. This led to Chase moving from the city to basically the middle of nowhereseville. I think it was mentioned the town had only about 200 residents. The one thing Chase didn't realize, was that no one may know him where he decided to move, but small towns are notorious for their tight knit communities and being all up in each others business. And Rhett was the nosiest of them all when it came to Chase.

"I can tell you used to smile because you have permanent laugh lines at the corner of your eyes."

Rhett was the sunshine to Chase's grumpy. It had been years since Chase had felt anything other than guilt and numbness. He was drowning and Rhett wanted nothing more than to pull him up and out of the darkness he found himself in. It took a lot of time, and a ton of patience, but eventually Rhett succeeded. Their path to falling in love was organic and slow. Two steps forward and one step back kinda slow. Chase had to deal with his demons and Rhett was devoted to trying to help him help himself. Rhett provided the safe place to fall, but it was Chase who had to take the leap back into living. Together they built the future both of them dreamed of and it was lovely to finally see them get their HEA at the end.

Jeanne St. James is an awesome author and did not disappoint in any way with this one. So much chemistry and intense emotional roller-coaster these two characters sent you on.

Heather's Review:

I knew that Reigniting Chase was going to be a gut-punch... and I was right... if you're looking for a book to tear you apart and put you back together, than this goes to the top of my recommendations list... please heed the trigger warnings for depression and loss if they are something you struggle with reading, but if you're ready for an emotional roller coaster that grips you from beginning to end with some amazingly sweet and wonderfully sunny scenes as well...

The whole town and Rhett are just what Chase needs and it's such a beautiful story to have been able to read... the book isn't all sweetness and sunshine, but you'll find that the hard won HEA will stay with you long after you finish the story.
