Book Blogger Hop - Do you get Book Burn Out?

I was so busy last week that I actually missed answering my own question in the Book Blogger Hop, so I'll start with this week's and add my 2 cents about last week's question too...
Do you ever get burnt out from reading?
Submitted by Billy @ Coffee Addicted Writer.

I read every day and up until I got COVID in January I would have sad no... but I still experience some lingering brain fog when I get tired and that has made keeping up the pace of reading that I have had the past few years impossible...  so I am working hard to avoid burnout by cutting back on the books I accept to ARC read (or trying to) and being thoughtful in taking breaks to do other things...

Our blog team has expanded considerably since we began, which is helping me to feel freer to share the requests we receive with others on the blog...

I am more aware of the possibility of burnout now, and actively work to make sure it doesn't happen....

And now, last week's question that I asked but didn't answer...

Do you have a threshold on books where you will offer the author feedback but won't review?
Submitted by Heather @ MM Romance Reviewed.

After reading several responses to this question on the hop, I realized that the question was a little ambiguous - so first I'll clarify - for me, feedback is a private response to the publisher, author, PA or tour promotion that explains why I wasn't able to provide a positive review for the blog, and a review is a public sharing of my likes, dislikes and general impressions of a book...

that said, here on the blog we only publish reviews that are inherently positive - since one of our goals is to promote the review to our social media and beyond, if we can't endorse a book we won't share here.  I also don't typically post my thoughts on books I give one or two star reviews to on Amazon or Goodreads unless there is a redeeming or necessary message for others who might be looking to read a book.

In essence, I try not to yuck anyone's yum, but I will post a public review if a blurb, title or cover are misleading, if there are significant plot discrepancies or something that I've addressed with the author that impacts others reading and they have declined to fix...

What about you?  Do you get reading burn out?  How do you decide what books to review and where?  Share your comments below and also check out the main posts and visit other book bloggers to see how they answer both questions!

  1. I have never experienced reading burnout. I have always read and will continue. I realize that doesn't work for everyone though.
