We've started a new feature here on MM Romance Reviewed - a chance to get to know some of the authors we work with - we send them a list of many questions and they pick 10 they want to answer for us! Our first victim, I mean author is Jax Stuart, whose debut novel So Worth More was recently reviewed by our team!
Welcome Jax, Thanks for stopping by! Let's get right into it:
Plot or Pants? Do you pre-plot your books, use an outline, fly by the seat of your pants or some combination of things? How do you keep track of characters in a series? Do you keep a journal of your characters statistics, such as hair and eye color, relatives, hometown, etc.
A mix? Sometimes I will sit and plot the overall story out. Other times it just comes as I write. I’ve only published one book so far, but have several in different states.
I mind map my characters with basic details - family, past, description etc and also look for pics for inspiration
Do you write full time or part-time?
Part-time. I’m a student, mom and work part-time
What are your writing goals for the next year? The future?
I’d like to get the Second Chances series finished and either The Mage’s Covenant or The Dangers of Wishing out in the next year or so. Then I can work on the other things I have ongoing.
What’s the hardest part about writing M/M romance or erotica?
Feeling like sometimes I shouldn’t be writing it or that I’m not a real writer. Imposter syndrome is difficult to deal with sometimes
Who’s your biggest supporter/cheerleader?
My best friend, Kelly
What made you decide gay romance was the genre you wanted to write?
It’s just how all the plot bunnies come these days, probably because it’s mostly what I read
Where do you find inspiration?
Sometimes it’s a random pic of a guy that I see, then suddenly I have a whole story planned out. Other times I’m in the shower and something that has been niggling me about one of my plots irons itself out goes in a new direction
What do you do if you hit a wall while writing? How do you combat writer’s block?
I go read or work on something else. It isn’t worth pushing through if it isn’t working
What do your friends and family think of what you write; do they know?
I “outed” my author profile to my friends and family. On the whole it was a great reaction. A lot of my family aren’t readers though so there isn’t the hugest amount of support there
How do we connect with you if we have more questions?
