High Alert is a very sweet, low angst friends to lovers story that incorporates some real environmental messages.. It was originally described as sweet with heat, and while there were a few qualifying heat scenes, it definitely steered way closer to sweet.

High Alert is an endearing friends to lovers trope with just a splash of heat and a strong focus on the characters and their interactions with their ever changing world. Set in Australia during the devastating fire season and the flooding aftermath, the book proves the resiliance of love and the spirit of community that was fostered during this remarkable time.
The story flowed well and I enjoyed getting to know the side characters and the community dynamic, but I honestly was looking for more heat and more couple interactions. I was drawn into their world and while I knew that they'd had a long, smoldering relationship, I wish there was just a little more tension and focus on some sort of internal coupley stuff.
If you are looking for an epic friends to lovers, slow burn romance - this is definitely one you want to add to your tbr!
