Starlight (Down the Shore Book 2) by Evie McGlynn

Even though he almost lost his life while helping people before, that won't stop Liam from being a dedicated nurse practitioner. Liam wants more from one of his rescuers, but Marco is determined to never commit to someone again, so Liam will have to settle for friends with benefits. Overcoming his fear of losing Liam will take everything in Marco for him to risk his heart again, but Liam is worth it all and more. SNik read Starlight.

From the blurb:

Liam
I joined Doctors Without Borders to help save lives and almost lost my own. The only reason I’m alive is because of Marco D’Angelo. My journey to full recovery isn’t smooth, but I’m determined to get
stronger and continue to help others in need. When an opportunity arises to help Marco and his team, I grab it with both hands. I’d like to grab Marco with both hands, but he’s put up a wall between us that seems insurmountable. I’m not sure if I’ll break through his wall or break my own heart.
Marco
I left the Navy SEALs to start my life with the man I loved. But he was taken from me in the most brutal way imaginable. Now it’s strictly hookups for me. I am not going through that pain ever again. Liam is a complication I can’t afford. He smart and sassy. He challenges me at every turn and manages to make me smile when no else has been able to. And even though I push him away, I can’t seem to walk away.

SNik's Review:

Starlight is the second in the series (Down the Shore), can be read as a standalone, but might be more fun if read in order. Close proximity. Dual POV. Heed content warnings.

Recovered from being captured and injured while working for Doctors Without Borders, Liam readily starts working again as a nurse practitioner, helping underserved communities closer to home. Marco is a former Navy SEAL that helped rescue Liam, and even though he is attracted to Liam, he has suffered heartbreak in the past and vowed to only do casual relationships. Even though they agree to routine hookups with no strings, Liam can’t help but fall for the tough yet caring bodyguard, and Marco doesn’t realize that Liam has definitely found a spot in his heart.

Both Liam and Marco are likable, admirable characters, they are surrounded by a supportive and fun secondary cast, and while having some dangerous work adventures, they also have some steamy personal interactions.

Well written, I could have read even more about Liam and Marco, and I really enjoyed their HEA.

Rating: 4.5 Stars
