“You smell so good even with Falcon’s blood on you,” Marvin panted, and wriggled closer to him, his face going into Ajani’s neck. Teeth grazed his skin, and he resisted the temptation, understanding on a deeper level what his mate was seeking, but the reminder he smelled of death was enough to make him stop.

His ape was wild, and his teeth elongated,

I’m covered in blood, and we’re perched on a damn tree. I don’t want our first time to be… like this. Marvin deserves better.

Marvin’s teeth continued to run up the side of Ajani’s neck, tempting him to change his mind.

Moments later Marvin’s body trembled as he wrapped his arms around Ajani and moved back, the shyness there in eyes tugged at his soul. They begged for things Ajani wasn’t prepared to give when it wasn’t safe.

A hard knot formed in his chest at the look of disappointment when he shook his head. All the things he’d endured, not giving in, was the hardest thing Ajani had done in his life.
